Northern Swamps

The northern swamps are the home and sanctuary of the Swamp Spirit. Unlike other lands, the Swamp Spirit has assimilated their magic and very self so deeply into the swamps that they basically are the swamps now.
Visitors are warned by locals to tread lightly and carefully in the swamps. They are the Swamp Spirit’s domain, and their safe haven, and they will protect them. From the moment you step into the swamps, the Swamp Spirit knows where you are, who you are, and what you intend to do in their home. If your intents are pure, you'll be allowed passage. If not . . . best stay in the grasslands.
There are countless stories of the horrible things done to impure travelers, usually resulting in painful deaths or curses. Locals are happy to scare travelers off with these tales, but they won't stop anyone who determines to go in anyway. They know they don't have to do a thing; the Swamp Spirit protects their own. Stories include instances of people going mad and attacking loved ones, starvation so fierce they eat their own flesh, snakes with bites venomous enough to kill four adults, ghostly lights visible only to a few that if followed will keep you wandering until your skin is worn to bone, sands that eat people, and of course the High Spirit themself in their huge crocodile form, whose eyes can heal or destroy you with a single look. There are even whispers that an evil more ancient than the world itself lurks in the brackish waters--and it's there by the Swamp Spirit’s invitation.
Few would dare attack the Swamp Spirit’s haven, perhaps not even the Sun Spirit himself.

Geography

The northern swamps are fed by both freshwater rivers and underground resoivors and saltwater of the northen seas.
They sustain a wide variety of wildlife, both floral and fauna, spirit and physical.

Fauna & Flora

Most reptiles and amphibians live in the swamps. They're famous for their venomous snakes. Lots of waterfowl migrate there during the winter.
Shamans around the grasslands love getting their hands on plants from the swamps, as many can be made into powerful medicines--good and bad.
