The Western Plain

The great, flat plain of the West is home to vast, open fields, and once-great forests reduced greatly by the Men of the West. A great deal of people live on the Western Plain, and it is even rumored that it is the most heavily populated region in the world. The soil is fertile, and farmlands stretch across it, from north to south. Only in the east is the soil tainted by the touch of the dead.

Geography

The Western Plain lies between the Thorik Mountains and the Great Sea to the west, and the Anguin Mountains to the east. Three major rivers run through it- the Naro in the north, running from east to west, the Aicirian in the central region, flowing from northeast to southwest, and the Alor in the south, running from north to south. In the southern region, Lake Alor sits, bordered by Inost and Anost, two forests in the south. The far south is home to the Carid Marshlands, where very little civilization exists. In the center, the Oldwood sits towards the coast, untouched by the Men nearby. In the east are the lands of Rothecil, the Land of the Dead, where even the famed fertile soil of the Western Plain bears little more than short, scraggly bushes and grasses. To the far north is the great forest of Onarith, a mainly pine forest inhabited by the Onarithian tribes.

Fauna & Flora

Many thousands of plant species exist on the Western Plain, including many types of grasses, plants, and deciduous trees. As well as these, rye and carrots are native to the lowland regions, and wheat and barley grow extremely well in these areas. Potatoes are also native to the highlands of the Thorik Mountains. Hundreds of animal species also live on the Western Plain, including deer, sheep and goats, boars, moose (in the northern areas), bison (although they are now extremely rare), wolves, leopards, bears, and the occasional lion (although fewer and fewer have been spotted as the years progress). Bird species include eagles, hawks, owls, and songbirds.

Natural Resources

The Western Plain is famed for its extensive agriculture, and it is often seen as the breadbasket of Magavir. As well as this, the rivers flowing from the Anguin Mountains are rich in sedimentary gold, silver, and gemstones. The large forests of the region also provide lumber for building and making tools and weapons.
