The Moon

The moon has been gazed at, marvelled at, and worshipped by humanity for countless generations. However, its relationship with mankind has altered forever, as it was the first test site for terraforming technology, the process completing in 1309 AD. The pearl of the night sky is now, for all time, a green and blue marble, an imitation of its parent satellite, and home to millions of people. The terraforming process was conducted by the Twin Empire, aided by Australian research, but it is nonetheless an achievement all humankind looks upon with pride.

Geography

The terraformed moon is dominated by its many craters, with most human settlements found nearby. However, the presence of minerals such as lux and helium-3 has also encouraged some settlement in the rockier parts of the planet, and lunar peaks are frequently the site of important solar shrines. The moon has less water, both proportionally and in real terms, than the Earth, so water usage is carefully controlled and there is, theoretically, a maximum population the moon can sustain. The other main difference between the moon and the Earth is the relative lack of soil. Soon after terraforming was completed an ecosystem to specifically encourage organic soil generation was introduced, but this is still in the early stages, and most crops have to be grown in specialised conditions.

Fauna & Flora

The lunar ecosystem is still in its early stages, and carefully monitored, but at present it is dominated by smaller animals. Though plants and animals were particularly brought because of uniquely suited behaviour and adaptations they have developed uniquely in the unusual lunar environment. The Dark Side of the moon is dominated by plants and animals requiring relatively little sunlight, the Light Side by the opposite. There are also differences between marine, crater, and montane ecologies, with unique regional ecosystems starting to develop in response to particular biomes.

Natural Resources

Lux, helium-3, uranium, and platinum group metals are all considered the most valuable of the moon's resources, and much lunar infrastructure is dedicated to mining, refining, and exporting these materials.
