Shadar-Kai

The rarest of the Eladrin's descendants, the Shadar-Kai are Eladrin/Elves who, when locked out of the Faywild, attempted to find another means of returning there. Spending years searching for another open gateway to their home, the Shadar-kai eventually stumbled upon a portal to the shadowfell. There, they were trapped for generations, their form slowly decaying and deforming them, aging them long past what would kill a modern Eladrin or Elf.
It was after the Shadar-Kai had nearly given up hope of ever returning to either the Faywild or to Luridel, that the Raven Queen, goddess of death, showed them mercy, and flung what was left of them back to Luridel.
Gaunt and sickly looking, sometimes appearing to have aged centuries past their lifespan, the Shadar-Kai have the ability to temporarily hide their aged appearance, showing themselves as if they were normal elves, though with a gray, almost lifeless skin tone.
Not feared like the Dark Elves, or seen as a curiosity like the Sea Elves, the Shadar-Kai in most respects are looked upon with pity, and to some, they are looked at as an omen of death, and pledge their very existance to the Raven Queen, serving as her messangers and tools in the material plane .
