The Raven Queen

Master of the skein of fate and mistress of despair, the Raven Queen is the god of death. Her gaze follows and marks the end of all mortal life, watching over the border between life and death to ensure that the natural transition is undefiled. Her blessing is asked for at many funerals to guide the deceased into the afterlife, protecting them from the terrible curse of undeath.
Some scholars believe that the Raven Queen used to be mortal, and she challenged the now-forgotten, previous God of Death to a duel--where she won, replacing him on the pantheon. The other gods, fearing for themselves and not wishing to see another mortal ascend to godhood, destroyed the secrets of her rites of ascension to prevent a repeat of the event.
The Raven Queen ascended to godhood, not out of desire for power as presumed by the other gods, but out of necessity. The previous God of Death grew tyrannical and sought only to expand his own influence, striking down mortals with reckless abandon. When the other gods refused to step in, she knew she was the only one who could stop him, doing so but in the process locking herself in her current position for eternity. And while she accepted her new role in the pantheon, she still longs for the days of her mortality, of being around the people she once loved and cared about. But she knows she has a commitment to the threads of fate, to the greater cosmic good, and carries out her duties without complaint.
The other gods limited her power, giving her control over that brief transition from life to death, and she carries out that obligation with indifference, knowing that death is a natural state. While there are those that fear her and try to avoid her, her dominion is inevitable, and she seeks to make the transition as seamless and quick as possible.
The Raven Queen tugs and plays with the threads of fate from a fortress made of black within Lethorna, positioned in a frigid corner within the Shadowfell.
Depictions of the Raven Queen are few and far between, with most statues honoring her typically displaying a raven as a symbol of her blessing. Those illustrations that do exist of her portray a tall, pale woman dressed in dangling black linens with a white porcelain mask covering her face and straight black hair that seems neverending.
  Commandments:
Hold no pity for those who have fallen, as death is the natural end of life.
Bring down the proud who try to shrug off the chains of fate. Those who try to cast off their destiny must be punished.
Undeath is an atrocity that must be stopped wherever it is found. Seek out and destroy those who attempt to prevent the transition of the soul.
