Noxtton

The City of the Night

Mortal History:

One of the very first cities founded in the United States of America, Noxtton has stood since the 17th Century, being founded by a man named Charles Wingham, a catholic fleeing the persecution from England to this New World. The Winghams, together with four other families, the Perrys; the Kaines; the Van der Hoffs and the Oakmonts would populate, and later control most of the city. The Wighams would control Charles's Landing, the first major settlement in the city and invest in naval construction, becoming famous for their warships and will still stand form many more eons to come. A city that thrives in not only entrepreneurship, but also crime and vice Noxtton earns it's name "The Night City" every day. It's history is steeped in America, being one of the many cities to rebel in the American Revolution, acting as a stronghold for the Union in the Civil War, hosting the Comission of the Cosa Nostra in the Prohibition, the men and women that made this city are as unscrupulous as they are numerous.

Made up of five main islands, connected to the mainland, Noxtton is divided into nine districts, all unique in their own way. The "Close Few" as they are called, are made up of Midtown, Imp Island and South Warren, they are the more blue colar neighborhoods, with docks and yards all mixed with mid to low income housing. Downtown is where the money's at, it is the wealthiest district, with not only the Stock Exchange but also the Noxtton University being placed there, it is also where most tourists go when they visit the city. Charles's Landing, named after the captain of the first ship to make it to shore, is an odd mix of blue colar/marginalized communities and entertainment, with both a large group of marginalized communities (such as African Americans, Latinos, Middle Easterns) reside, but also a place for the sports crowd to go and watch their favorite teams, such as The Noxtton Night Haunters, play in the new stadiums. Directly in the side of Charles's Landing is Suburbia, a rich network of neighborhoods, with mansions and villas everywhere, they pay premium for that view of the sea. In between those two is the Old Port, what used to be an entire subsection of the city, was turned into a swamp after a hurricane wrecked the place, turning into a heaven for smugglers such as the infamous Rat of Belgrade. North Ridge and Pilgrim's Rest are the odd ones out. One is the dream project of the last and current administration, full of middle class housing and construction projects, all made to incentivize a new image of the city. While the second is a relic of the Gilded Age, an entire island made up of carnival, joy rides and cotton candy, with the Arkham Circus & Joy Park dominating most of it's scenery. While to the west, on the continent, lies the Nigel Perry Airport, named after the Civil War general that would later become mayor and governor.

Supernatural History:

Noxtton has been a Camarilla stronghold ever since the Battle of Noxtton, in 1991, until that point it was a Sabbat dominion ruled by Archbishop Matthias Blumqvist. The meager Camarilla presence in the city was lead by Vladmir Menshkov, a survivor of the Bolshevik purge of the royal family, a ad hoc government called the "Court in the Shadows". But one night, after months of planning, Menshkov struck, together with his Bone Gnawer allies and a unknown sponsor, he crushed the Sword of Caine in battle establishing himself as Prince in the city. In 2018, after the Brujah and Gangrel clans departed the Sect for the Anarchs, a lone figure steped into the Hotel Mysterio, the Camarilla's HQ, a man named Michael Valentini, former Paladin of the Sabbat and he carried both an offer and a gift. The first was for the Lasombra clan, formerly leaders of the Sabbat, to join the Camarilla, and the latter was the head of Blumqvist, delivered as a gesture of good faith. The clan of shadows was accepted without delay. After the murder of Harderstat by Theo Bell and the Anarch schism, the city was turned into a cold war, with the Anarchs, lead by their Baron Cassius Deshawn holding Charles's Landing and the Old Port, but being challenged everywhere else, and their organization relying on the drug trade of the Setites, lead by the mysterious Ozymandias, and with local gangs as extra muscle. All the while this happens, clan Hecata, and their Giovanni overlords have faced an uphill battle for a presence in the city, ever since the decline in power of the Mafia in the 90s. Their current head Anthony "Big Tony" Giovanni having lost control of most of the Cosa Nostra to clan Lasombra, but having been recently reinforced by his allies in clan Hecata.

The Werewolf situation in the city is more precarious, with them being expelled after the Battle of Noxtton, when a traitorous member of the Bone Gnawer Tribe made a deal with Menshkov in exchange to remain in the city. Nowadays the traitor's name is expunged from Garou History, simply being known as "The King of Beggars", ruling over his namesake and acting as a sort of Spymaster and information broker in the city's underworld. But before that the Garou had a very strong presence in the city, especially with the Bone Gnawers and the Glass Walkers, the latter in the financial districts and the former in the slums. Tho they both were hit by the Great Depression in their own ways, bouncing back in the New Deal, but their strength never again being the same, fighting for every inch they tried to reclaim. All of it coming to head in 1991 when, with information provided by the King of Beggars, Vladimir Menshkov was able to defeat his Sabbat opponents in open battle, expelling them from the limelight forever. But the Glass Walkers tried to retaliate, only be met by prepared ambushes by the Camarilla, having being advised by the Bone Gnawers on their kin's safehouses and locations, all now taken over by the Prince's associates, and their Caerns by their former comrades.

Noxtton is a city filled with regret, vice and what ifs, so it is a propitious ground for wraiths and ghosts. Not only for the constant deaths by the city's underworld and vices, but also by tragedies such as the flooding of the Old Port and the fall of Flight 117 in the outskirts of town.
The Noxtton Necropolis was created in 1671 with the aim of organizing the chaotic situation of the place at the time, and also so that Stygia could educate these barbarians in the ways of the afterlife civilization. Conflicts occurred with the spirits of the natives who already had their own ideals and organization and powerful shamans and also with the vampiric and necromantic Verrazzano family who maintained control of the place for many years and this shaped the posture of apparently indirect and modest agents of the necropolis today up to date, since the Anacreon still remembers what happened. The Anacreon prefers to avoid trouble, but eventually the Iron Duke bare his fangs and show why he is the leader of the land of glorious freedom. The Necropolis maintains its territory strictly within the city of Noxtton and is advised by the legions not to expand or share territory with other groups.
