Giant's Monolith

The first thing you'll see as you leave the forest of the fey is the domed peak of long tower jutting from the ruined landscape of blasted trees, rolling hills and cracked valleys. It's not until you are upon it that you may appreciate its true size, wider around than most mansions and rising taller than anything built after the cataclysm. Gleaming white in the sun, made of the peculiar marble they were fond of in the hintertimes, it leans precariously at a steep angle. Its only support is a carving of an emormous giant, far larger than the ones that bare that name and roam the landscape. Over fifty feet tall from foot to face, it holds the tower over a shoulder with one hand and steadies it with the other. The carving is so intricate one could swear the giant breaths and time has done nothing to wither away its features. The tower may be ascended from the lopsided gate at its base, though the stairs inside lean equally. The Big Hat Sages who have taken to the place built warp pads, but first time pilgrims like to climb the enormous structure that seems to shake underfoot.

History

Towers were commonplace in the old world, since the time of the Cataclysm, most have fallen. One such tower was the Giant Monolith. Its purpose was unknown, as is what time in the past it the tower began to fall. It is believed that mystic forces held the towers upright, and when they faded the towers began to fall. A giant, once common throughout the land, is said to have held it as it listed, allowing its occupants to flee. For reasons unknow, it was petrified in place. It could also just be an intricate carving. Regardless, the massive statue of a giant standing alone and holding up the leaning colossal tower is a wonder. Because of its landmark status and mysterious past, it became a favourite meeting place for the Big Hat sages, who ascend the wobbling tower regularly to meet and exchange ideas, or use the observatory they somewhat foolishly, or at least dangerously, constructed at the peak. It now contains a vast collection of lore and artifacts considered too inane for the Academia, become a place of pilgrimage for aspiring mages who wish to learn more about the eclectic sages.
