Hool Marshes

Summary

The Hool Marshes exist within the northernmost portion of the Saltmarsh Region and sit adjacent to the Drowned Forest. They are infamous for their pools of water that seem easy to cross but hide deep wells and layers of mud. The area is full of tall, sickly trees and great swarms of biting insects. None but the desperate venture into this place, making it the ideal hiding place for outlaws or raiders.

History

The Hool Marshes were once flourishing with the activity of bandits who looked to stake a claim within the natural defenses of the marshes' muddy banks. The lizardfolk that once thrived along the banks of the Sword Coast moved inward, creating the lizardfolk village of Dunwater, which has housed multiple lizardfolk tribes over time.   As King Skotti continued his conquest of the Saltmarsh Region, the bandit camps of the marshes began to dwindle in their numbers. Ulimately, all bandits who were not killed, or fled to become Sea Princes, congregated on the war camp of Flimrick. Today, the camp stands at the edge of The Drowned Forest, and is composed entirely of the most hardened of traditionalists.

Legends

The vile demon-crocodile Thousand Teeth the Devourer once made his lair within the marshes.
