Flockfest

Summary

Flockfest is an enormous festival that takes place on the evening that precede the first day of Flocktime, which is the 28th Day of Planting. The festival is put on by the city of Saltmarsh to celebrate the supernaturally plentiful waters along their coast, which boasts enormous hauls of fish year round. The festival draws visitors from far and wide for its exquisite sea food, its vibrant atmosphere, and its eccentric Fish Toss tradition.

History

The celebration has existed since before King Skotti's conquest of Keoland, which many write off as "ancient history". Some will argue that the festival began long ago, on the same day as the erection of the Standing Stones off the northeast coast. However, an equal opposition believe that tale to be folklore.

Fish Toss

The main event of the evening is known as the "Fish Toss", where an expert fisherman throws a fish back into the ocean as a gift of gratitude to Procan. At the apex of the event, the fisherman approaches the sea, thanks Procan, and hurls the fish as far as he can.   While many still revere this as a holy ritual, in recent years the Saltmarsh Mariners' Guild has managed to transform the event into a "fisherman's pissing contest". Whereas the fisherman was once chosen by the Temple of Procan, the fisherman is now lobbied for by the Mariners' Guild and ultimately selected by the Saltmarsh City Council.
