KOHKOL: Session 06 -- Prelude 'Composition'

"When is this place?"     "In our score it is... about here, I'd say."     "I see. It's an intermezzo."     "Most amusingly, few but we three would know what that word means. If any are eavesdropping, they will be confused."     "IS that what we are after? Confusion?"     "It is in our best interest to keep things vague. If we were to lay it all out there in simple prose it would make a mess of everything."     "You are both to be congratulated in that case. I struggle to know half of what your compositions mean."     "Just as well from my point of view."     "I on the other hand, find your inability to appreciate my nuanced gestures and figures, disappointing. Is it the music or the themes that leave you cold?"     "Your compositions are difficult due to the language. Too subjective to my ear."     "Don't listen with your ear then, Skald."     "Hmm, yes..."     "I thank you both for coming. It is a grand occasion for mine."     "Yes, for too long have you taken a holiday."     "Hah! You make jest."     "I accept the charge you bring against me."     "Enough verbal interplay. It isn't necessary between you two. You two are a ready duet. It is more awkward for me to join in if you two intend to be so close."     "I prefer to think of it as a measure of our time together before this. You are no less important but somewhat an addition to our piece."     "I'd say, that this is a piece written for voice and viola. Your strings bring the necessary power and gravitas that we two might otherwise have to force. Without your contribution it wouldn't have that...impact?"     "A nice way to say my part is less important."     "Your part lies ahead in a way that both of ours do not."     "It's true. We two cannot hope to play on without you."     "It will depend very much on how you choose to conduct yourself."     "If you say it is so, I will take you at your word."     "Words are more than half of what is left me."     "While for myself, they are exactly half of what is left me as I represent Humanity."     "Deth is at a crossroads then."     "I am often believed to stand at such as this."     "I'm missing the subtlety of what you mean but I know that you mean it."     "You are growing into yourself, Skald. I'm gladdened to see this."     "We should begin the new arrangement of the piece."     "Right your are, Sprite. What do you think, is there much that needs altering?"     "The first movement is fine as is. The second begins well but then sets the wrong tone for our next audience."     "Well, this part here was always meant to belong to the listener's inner ear. I could just play louder?"     "No, I think we must re-arrange it. Here... and here. Listen to this part but watch this instead... ... ... You see? I think that's more effective here. Considering..."     "Quite right. How did you modulate the tone so well? I have not seen that chord before. Where did you find it?     "This is from the Third Realm. I hope you don't mind my..."     "Sprite, you are welcome to this as long as you are going to share what you find."     "I can't see a problem doing that."     "Overall, most of it works. The ending will need a dash of something more classical."     "I see what you intend. A good thing too. It will be more meaningful to them than these figures of modernity. Too jarring to their ears and hearts."

The three bards continued their new arrangement well into the next day. When they were done, they made preparations to debut the song to a new world-wide audience.
