The First King

Long ago, the Four Realms of Magic were united under the rule of the Mage King. His name has long been forgotten, for the First King of the Realms was also the last.

The Conflict

Prelude

In all Four Realms, there is but one Taboo. The Practicing of Black Magic. Any form of magic, be it runic, spoken, signed, or wanded, that is amplified by the sacrifice of blood or life.

Deployment

No one knows when the First King was seduced by Black Magic, but all know the day that he was finally consumed by it. It was the 13th Day of the 13th Fortnight, when the First King lead his Mages into the town of Lamua and laid waste to every soul inside its walls. The blood and life stolen that night produced a storm of magic so thick that it blocked out the sun for the entirety of the War.

Battlefield

The First King, drunk on the power he had stolen, set up his Throne in the middle of the ruins of Lamua. His Mages raised the corpses of their victims into a nightmarish army, and set them to work fortifying the island city. It was here that the Sages, the leaders of all four schools of magic, allied together to bring the King down.

The Engagement

The Siege of Lamua lasted for nearly two years, with the Army of the Sages taking many losses. In the end it was not a soldier who eliminated the First King, but a spy. A young shapeshifter who sacrificed his life to end the reign of the First King.

Outcome

The War ended and the Army of the Four Realms dispersed back to their own lands, leaving Lamua empty and for a time, forgotten.

Aftermath

The Four Realms forged a formal alliance, bringing them together once more, but without a king. The Mages' Council was formed, lead by the four Sages who lead the assault on the First King. The calendar was rewritten to signify the beginning of a new age.

Historical Significance

The name of the First King was not spoken aloud by anyone who lived through the War, and in time it was forgotten altogether. However the Sages who fought or died in the conflict are still hailed as heroes by their Realms: Sage Adamec & his predecessor Sage Pergah of Earth, Sage Katyin of Water, Sage Tahut of Air, and Sage Masou & his son Sage Urijah of Fire. However the man credited with ending the War and called the Savior of the Realms was a young Earth Mage spy by the name of Varian Rhan. To this day all seven heroes are celebrated and revered throughout the Four Realms.

Legacy

The Sages and the Mages' Council continue to guide and govern over the Four Realms to this day. The Council found it fitting to turn Lamua into a neutral zone, inhabited only by nomags, and to make the island city the seat of the governing Council. Four times a year the Council members convene in Lamua to vote on the governance of their allied countries. The 7th Day of the 7th Fortnight is celebrated across all Four Realms as a Day of Peace. While the 13th Day of the 13th Fortnight is a day of Remembrance and Mourning and all four schools use this day to emphasize the horrors of Black Magic.

Army of the Four Realms

Strength

By sacrificing life and blood to their magics, Black Mages can amplify their natural abilities by a factor of three. While their force was small, less than 100 members, they were able to use forbidden rites to raise an army of over 50,000 and built an island fortress.
Between the Four Realms, over 200,000 people - Mages and nomags alike - joined together to form the Army of the Four Realms

Casualties

It is believed that every Black Mage had linked their life force to that of their King. In an attempt to preserve his own life, the King drew the life from his followers - killing them. When the Black Mages died, every corpse that they had raised was released from their command and departed this world once more.
Nearly 100,000 men and women gave their lives to end the reign of the First King. Including two Sages and 30,000 Mages.

Objectives

The goal of the First King was to rule the entire world, he was prepared to sacrifice the lives of every man, woman, and child in his Realms in order to gain the power to conquer.
To take back the Island of Lamua, kill the First King, and eradicate the Black Mages.
