Bears

Cave bears

Though their numbers have dwindled significantly due to hunting and habitat loss, many individuals still roam in the plentiful woodlands and mountain ranges of middle Hebronia. They are so named because they make their homes in caves, preferably far from civilization. This preference should not be mistaken for timidness; as with all bears, they will defend their territory with great ferocity.   Cave bears feed on fish, insects, berries but are especially fond of honey. They range in colour from a deep chestnut brown to auburn, with lighter markings around the collar and eyes. In Hebronian nobility, they are frequently depicted on coats of arms and are a favourite quarry of hunting parties.   Average height, males: 1.58 meters or 5'2" at shoulder (2.54 meters or 8'4" when standing)   Average height, females: 1.16 meters or 3'10" at shoulder (2.12 meters or 6'11 when standing)

Terminus bears

So named because they are found at the 'terminus of the world'. They have white fur to blend in with the harsh, boreal regions of Hebronia. Though they are the largest and the only 'true' carnivores, they are opportunistic scavengers as they prefer others to do the work then stealing the kill. Their favorite prey are seals and walruses because of their high fat which is needed for the energy to survive long winters. Nomadic tribes hunt them for their furs and fat.   Average height, males : 1.67 meters or 5'6" at shoulder (2.79 meters or 9'2" when standing)   Average height, females: 1.25 meters or 4'1" at shoulder (2.37 meters or 7'9" when standing)

Painted bears

Native to the rain forests of Jansumay in the far east, painted bears are relatively peaceful vegetarians. They spend nearly every waking hour eating the leaves and roots of bamboo trees. When not eating, they sleep high up in trees to avoid predators but are more than capable of defending themselves with their vicious, long claws. Painted bears get their name for their mostly black and white fur with gold-like and reddish patterns.
