Pieces of Eight, Session 20: The Tragedy of Tarkeltopia

Yeros, Zangrim’s brother, is alive in this reality. He’s a jerk but he’s a genius.   Rithrana, Eyrs’ sister, is alive in this reality. She was engaged to Yeros but stole the TARKELoop, to hunt vampires probably. Zangrim suspects she could still be in town.   James Wavebreaker could potentially be redeemed. However, he needs to be separated from the Glaive which can be summoned to him from anywhere. So a soul forge will be required to destroy the Glaive.   Grave reminders are dangerous and can age your body decades with a touch. This could be particularly deadly for Mabel.   The souls in the Glaive - particularly Yeros - beg to be saved.   You need to get back to the circle with Yeros, or find the TARKELoop to escape this reality.   The Gravebound has monsters that patrol the space outside of realities. Yeros kills these monsters with a massive cannon when they get too close.

General Summary

The Tarkelteam arrive in Tarkeltopia - a futuristic city where things are both very different and very similar - with James Wavebreaker right behind them.

New in Town

Full breakdown of this session coming soon.

Eyrs, Mabel, Krag, Zangrim, and Zararuk arrive in Tarkeltopia without Klearic, Jimmy, or Vencyne. They are immediately greeted by Zangrim One Million One, who explains everything about Tarkeltopia while using a "computer" to try and locate the other heroes. He also manages to scrounge a Tarkeltoy for Zangrim to use as a replacement for the Tarkeltool.
He tells the story of Yeros Tarkelby - Reality One Million One, but makes himself the main character in the story of The King’s Claw. He soon reveals his lie when he learns that James Wavebreaker controls an unreal force that shouldn't exist - ghosts.
Zangrim One Million One is actually the only Tarkelby that didn't get the spark of artifice in his reality. Yeros, who was actually in charge of Tarkeltopia, thought Zangrim was a failure and hated him.
Zangrim One Million One ran behind the Tarkelteam closing large blast doors behind them. After a few moments, Zangrim recieves a call on his lesser speaking stone. It's James Wavebreaker and he wants to enact Mordecai's revenge on his former party members.
Zangrim tried to convince him that the Glaive was evil, and for a moment it seemed like he succeeded. Wavebreaker was free from the influence, but only for a few seconds.

"Zangrim, I can't break free, its just too powerful. I can't..." - James Wavebreaker

The party decided that they could maybe free James from the Glaive's power if they could just get it away from him. Mabel remembered the Soul Forge back at The Starving Citadel. However, they quickly remembered that the Glaive can always be summoned to him. They needed a way to seperate the two and destroy the Glaive almost simultaneously.

Wraiths on the Rails

The party ran to the Tarkeltopia Train Depot, and got on board. Zangrim One Million One stayed behind. He agreed with Yeros One Million One. He was responsible for the destruction of their reality, and he would stand in the way of Wavebreaker whatever it took. He said his final words and turned to face the hexblade warlock.

"Tell Yeros I'm sorry for sleeping with Zulynn behind Mordecai's back, causing him to go crazy and kill the king. She just wanted to get her rocks off and I'm a bard, it's like my thing." - Zangrim One Million One before fighting Wavebreaker alone

As the trained pulled away, four Grave Reminders slipped through the walls of the train and entered the cart carrying the Tarkelteam. Three ghostly Sea Princes hovered towards them. Zangrim immediately set down a healing turret and the battle began.
Eyrs used hemomancy to infuse her crossbow with blood magic, and two hemomantic crossbow bolts zipped through the first spirit, and it dissolved instantly into a puff of ethereal energy.
Mabel Bloodsworth, the matriarch of the Lycan Trio, was unphased by the presence of ghosts and simply swung her Moon Manual at them. The book's lettering briefly left its cover to attack the undead as well.
Eyrs lover, Zararuk, unsheated the Rat Bastard and poked through the ghost two quick times. A gust of burning Seaton air filled the traincar as the ghost was singed with magical fire. Zararuk felt his blood boil inside his body, as he quickly took control of the flaming appirition in its last moments before him. He puppeteered the grave reminder, and it pulled the other ghost back with it into the Grave Glaive.
Finally, a familar figure stood. It was shorter than the other ghosts. It was Yeros Tarkelby. He was moving his mouth but his words were inaudible. He attempted and failed to posess his still living brother, before ultimately resorting to a more phsyical attack.
Zangrim, Eyrs, and Mabel all atracked the spirit in vain before Zarazuk stabbed it with the rat bastard. Yeros burned like paper, but as he faded away his lips formed two detactable words.

"Save us." - Yeros Tarkelby

Zangrim shuddered and Zararuk aged 10 years in a single moment. These grave reminders were dangerous. They needed to form a plan, so they headed for Yeros as soon as they reached the Merchant's Quarter.

Yeros and Rithrana

Zangrim and his party, blew past alternate forms of Warrick and Venssa who were working hard on something unseen.
In the room beyond Yeros was upset. His fiance, Rithrana, had broken things off and stolen the ever-important TARKELoop. She stole the last one and that was the only way away from Tarkeltopia. Yeros was unsure of how Rithrana could've even activated a TARKELoop since it requires a Tarkeltool, and those can only be used by a Tarkelby. Yeros suspects she left to hunt vampires, who she hated.
Zangrim posited that perhaps Rithrana could still be in the city, but the party decided to deal with Wavebreaker first.
Yeros could open the portal instead, but they'd have to go through Wavebreaker to get back there. The party also discussed using a soul forge in Tarkeltopia but Yeros no longer had access to one. Though at one point he had used a soul forge to invent Warforged, and even sent some to other realities to help. Doc was one such person.
So the team decided to battle Wavebreaker head-on using Yeros' Warforged against Wavebreaker's ghosts, while Eyrs and Zararuk used jetpacks to try and get around the ghosts and seperate James from the Grave Glaive. There was also some talk if using a massive cannon that Tarkeltopia has.

The Grave Wave

The decision was unamious and so (after Yeros disabled the child-lock) Zangrim used the Tarkeltoy to command the Warforged out of the factory, as an army of grave reminders approached the merchant's quarter, and Zararuk and Eyrs hovered in the air above.
Mabel faced the ghosts, and the centenarian human lycan tossed her journal into the air. The moon on the cover, the moon of Mabel's world, became real again and as the moonlight touched her skin the silver fur burst from her pores. Mabel said a handful of words, as the elderly warrior prepared to fight alongside her students, Zangrim, Yeros, and an army of Warforged.

"It's time to Lycan Subskrybe." - Mabel Bloodsworth

  The battle began.
