Tiefling

Basic Information

Anatomy

Tieflings have standard humanoid anatomy, but with the additions of two horns sprouting from their heads in addition to a thick tail. This tail, in adults, ranges from four to five feet long, and ends in an arrow or heart shape. This tail lashes if the tiefling is upset, or coils around their legs if they are nervous.
Their eyes are a solid colour, any colour, no pupil.
Their skin is most commonly red, but can also be black. As a rare abnormality, a tiefling's skin can be nearly any colour.
Tieflings almost certainly have black or white hair. The exception to this are tieflings with unusual skin colours, who can easily have any hair colour.

Biological Traits

There are nine variants of tiefling, each with differing inherent spellcasting abilities. They are named after the Nine Blessing Devils.

Genetics and Reproduction

Tieflings can only reproduce with humans and other tieflings. The child of a tiefling and a human is the same species as the mother. Human offspring have vibrant irises of their tiefling father's eye colour, but this trait does not pass on to human-human offspring.

Tieflings mature at the same rate as humans, but they live a few years longer.

Tieflings, similar to humans, can be found nearly anywhere in Leytara, but in much smaller numbers.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Tieflings have darkvision, up to 60 ft. They cannot discern colour in darkness.

Naming Traditions

Most tieflings have a human name, but some choose single-word "virtue" names, which are supposed to represent a virtue the tiefling wants to embody. There are also the rare few who choose infernal names, which is usually taboo.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Tieflings have an inherent understanding of and fluency in the Infernal language from birth. Otherwise, they learn whichever language is in their region.

History

At some point, farther back in history than anything can recall, a group of humans were blessed by the Nine Blessing Devils, who are otherwise forgotten to time. These humans became the first tieflings. From there, they spread across Leytara.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Tieflings tend to not judge humans or other tieflings based on their race, but they are likely to have the same judgements of more monsterous races as humans would.
