Dragonborn

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dragonborn have standard humanoid anatomy, with leathery skin hidden by small, fine scales. Their heads look akin to a dragon's, but without horns. Their hands have three clawed fingers each, and their feet likewise have three clawed toes each. Dragonborn do not have breasts.

Biological Traits

There are various ancestries of dragonborn, each representing a dragon species. Their personalities are often very minimally influenced by their respective dragon species. (For instance, a blue dragonborn may be patient and methodical, while a black dragonborn might go for the weakest opponent first before intimidating their remaining opponents, and a silver dragonborn may enjoy socializing.) Dragonborn scales are of similar colours and patterns to their respective dragon species.

Faerie Ancestry

There are also faerie dragonborn, who are rarer than chromatic or metallic dragonborn. Some people see the birth of a faerie dragonborn as a sign that they have recently been deceived about something, or that they will soon be deceived. They have a reputation for mischief and trickery, although they are not defined by it.

Crystal Ancestry

Crystal dragonborn are thought by some to have once existed, but evidence supporting this thought is scarce at best.

Genetics and Reproduction

When dragonborn mate, the female dragonborn will lay 1-3 fertile eggs within a month, which will take roughly 2 months to hatch into newborn dragonborn.

Growth Rate & Stages

Young dragonborn grow quickly. They walk hours after hatching, attain the size and development of a 10-year-old human child by the age of 3, and reach adulthood by 15. They live to be around 80.

Ecology and Habitats

Although dragonborn can thrive in any human environment, they are most at home in their respective ancestry dragons' environments.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Dragonborn are carnivores.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Dragonborn's faces are reminiscent of true dragons, and sometimes have facial features from their ancestral dragons. They do not, however, have horns.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Dragonborn can be found in most places, but the ancestry of dragon you're most likely to find depends on your area's terrain, and it is rare to encounter multiple dragonborn in one village or town.

Common Dress Code

Most dragonborn feel inadequate without horns, and so many of them wear helmets or other headwear that feature horns.

History

At an uncertain point long ago, an immensely powerful dragon wizard cast a spell that transformed a small number of humans into the first dragonborn. These first dragonborn were referred to as the Dao Dragonborn, and were hunted by the Mordao Legion to near extinction, soon before the destruction of the legion.   After ages, the Dao Dragonborn lost much of their connection to that dragon wizard, and came to resemble the dragonborn of today.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Dragonborn don't make assumptions about other people based on their race as often as humans do.
