Aarakocra
Aarakocra very often have a restlessly explorative nature, which many other races attribute to their short lifespans.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Aarakocra are humanoid, but with the addition of two bird-like wings sprouting from around their shoulder plates. These wings allow for flight, and can be locked in place for extended periods of flight.
Aarakocra feet are like those of birds, with three toes facing forwards and a fourth toe facing backwards. These toes end in talons. The feet's thick, wrinkled skin is efficient at regulating the aarakocra's temperature. Between the talons and temperature regulation, footwear is not good for an aarakocra.
Aarakocra are covered in feathers, save for their feet. The pattern of these feathers vary wildly.
An aarakocra's head is almost indistinguishable from a bird's head.
Biological Traits
Diuku
Diuku are "eagle-like" aarakocra. Their heads represent eagles. Their bodies are a few feet taller than humans on average. A diuku's feathers are usually white, grey, brown, and/or black.Cirku
Cirku are "owl-like" aarakocra. Their heads represent owls. Their bodies are a few feet shorter than humans on average, and their wingspans are a little wider and a little shorter than a diuku or metku's wingspan. A cirku's feathers are usually white, grey, or tan.Metku
Metku are "raven-like" or "crow-like" aarakocra. Their heads represent ravens or crows. The average height of a metku isn't much different from that of a human. A metku's feet are much thinner than a diuku's or cirku's, and are black, as opposed to a diuku's or cirku's tan/peach feet. A metku's feathers are always black, and without pattern.Realku
Realku are "parrot-like" aarakocra. Their heads represent parrots. Their bodies are a few feet shorter than humans on average, and their wingspans are a little wider and a little shorter than a diuku or metku's wingspan. A realku's feathers are often red, blue, green, yellow, cyan, magenta, and other bright colours. Realku originate from Upper Keanos, unlike many other aarakocra. As such, they're incredibly rare to find on the material plane.Genetics and Reproduction
Aarakocra do not give live birth. Instead, they lay eggs.
Growth Rate & Stages
Aarakocra are risen by their parents, or anyone else who the parents trust, until they're 5 years old.
Ecology and Habitats
Aarakocra heavily prefer large, open areas, where they could be capable of flying within. However, they do prefer to sleep within a confined shelter.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Aarakocra are carnivores.

Naming Traditions
Aarakocra who were raised in the material plane tends to give their children names from the culture that aarakocra grew up in.
Aarakocra who were raised in Keanos give their children native aarakocran names.
Aarakocran names sound vaguely like the sounds birds make. They may be difficult to properly pronounce to those unable to speak Aarakocran. The names tend to be relatively short, harsh sounding, and often toward the side of screeching sounds.
This Fantasy Name Generator page should work well for randomly generating an Aarakocran name.

The native language of aarakocra is Aarakocran, from Lower Keanos. Aarakocra raised on the material plane often still learn Aarakocran from their parents and other aarakocra.

Aarakocra originated from Lower Keanos, but some have entered the material plane through a portal in the Lucent Keys. As such, the Lucent Keys is where most material-plane-dwelling aarakocra call home.
