Religion

Religion plays an extremely important role in the lives of the inhabitants of Levan. The Gods created the world in which these people now live. Many of the Gods and Goddesses even choose to take an active role in the affairs of Levan. In some cases this can mean acting as a benevolent God, that is there to help their loyal followers, and in other cases, this can mean tempting and tricking mortals to do their bidding or worse. Because of their active role in the world, the same Pantheon of Gods and Goddesses is worshiped across the world with varying degrees of importance being put on different Gods in different regions.

History

In the beginning, there was only one being of immense power, Teho. Teho spent millennia after millennia alone in the vast empty Void. But with time she began to master her Godly powers and was able to will things into existence. At first she started out small, creating a home for herself and various objects to occupy her time with. As time went on she was able to create more and more, eventually being able to create entire planes of existence. Her first realm would be called Levan and would be home to all of her creations. She continued to populate Levan for a number of centuries, creating rivers, mountains, oceans, forests, and beautiful structures to call home. All of this was not enough for Teho, as she was still alone despite all of her constructive abilities. It was at this point that she created the Five Gods of Creation to help populate her world.   These Five Gods of Creation were Teho's children and her closest companions. They each helped add to the world, adding their own important contributions to Levan. Aevum, the eldest of her children, created Time itself to help bring order to the world. Aevum would spend his earliest days walking through the gardens in Levan monitoring the passing of time and the rising and setting of the sun. Teho's second son was Locus, who would create a barrier of space separating Levan from the void. Vitae was Teho's third child and first daughter. Vitae had the closest bond with Teho and spent most of her time with her mother. Vitae could tell that Teho was still lonely despite all her children, to make up for this she created true life on Levan. Allowing all living things to possess a soul, allowing them to communicate with the Gods. Teho's final two children were the twins Caelum and Baratrum. Caelum and Baratrum were the most ambitious of the Gods of Creation, constantly trying to win their mother's approval. Because of this, the two Gods were constantly competing amongst each other. It is because of this competition that these two became the most influential and powerful of the Gods of Creation. In a bid to win their mother's approval both God's created their own planes of existence where Teho could live. Caelum created the Aether, a heavenly realm where Teho could observe Levan and live in luxury. Baratrum hastily tried to copy his brother's creation and made Gehenna. Gehenna was an imperfect realm with many cracks within its barrier letting bits of the Void in, corrupting the realm. Teho was impressed with both creations but ultimately decided to reside in the more stable Aether. In an effort to appease Baratrum, Teho decided to use Gehenna as a sort of courthouse and jail for the unjust souls of Levan.   After the Five Gods of Creation had carved out their own spheres of influence and control in the world they each created their own Gods to aid in their duties. Locus created the Guardians, three powerful Gods, and Goddesses each tasked with protecting the different parts of the world and its inhabitants. Vitae created the Four Elemental Gods, each with their own areas of specialization. These Gods and Goddesses brought more life to Levan. Caelum created the Aethoral, who were tasked with defending the Aether from the unjust. The Nekonor were created by Baratrum and served a similar purpose as the Aethoral, only they were in charge of Gehenna. Finally, the Patrons were created by Aevum. The Patrons had no set goals or agenda, each Patron served their own purpose. The Patrons were the most numerous subset of Gods created by the Five Gods of Creation.   With all these new Gods and Goddesses, Levan quickly became populated with different races and creatures. With her creation finally, complete Teho retired to the Aether where she watched over her creation, curious to see what would happen next. Many of the Gods would join her in the Aether as well when they felt as though their purpose had been fulfilled they would move to the Aether. However, not all the Gods joined her in the Aether, instead, some chose to move to Gehenna where they could more freely experiment with creation and their powers. Others still would venture out into the Void, hoping that they too could create their own plane of existence.

Teho Teho is the Goddess of Gods and Mother of All. She is responsible for the creation of all the Gods and Goddesses. She is the most powerful of all the Gods, being able to control her powers like no other. After her creation of Levan was complete she retired to the Aether where she would watch over and protect her creation from afar. Since she is the most important of the Gods and Goddesses, she is universally worshipped throughout Levan, typically having at least a shrine in every village, city, or fortress.   The Five Gods of Creation The Five Gods of Creation were the first set of Gods and Goddesses to be created and as such are the most powerful, following Teho. They were created by Teho to aid in the creation of Levan. Following in their mother's footsteps each of The Five Gods of Creation would create their own lesser Gods as well.   The Guardians The Guardians are a subset of Goddesses created by Locus to protect Levan. Each of The Guardians was tasked with protecting a different part of Levan from the Void and eventually the Nekonor as well.   The Elementals The Elementals are a subset of Gods and Goddesses created by Vitae to aid her in the creation and protection of life in Levan. Unlike The Guardians, who are concerned with protecting the physical properties of Levan, The Elementals are tasked with protecting the inhabitants. After centuries of protecting these people from internal and external threats, The Elementals fused with Levan itself imbuing the world with their powers, this act created magic in Levan. The Elementals are currently neither alive nor dead, they have become a part of the world, and as such their fates are tied with Levan's survival   The Aethoral The Aethoral were created by Caelum with the task of defending the Aether and the righteous. They are the most popular Gods and Goddesses among the various Paladin Orders and other religious warriors. During the Years of Blood, the Aethoral took up the active defense of Levan and the Aether in the fight against the Nekonor.   The Nekonor The Nekonor were created by Baratrum in an attempt to rival Caelum's Aethorals. They spent most of their time in Gehenna where they would experiment with the creation of different things. When Baratrum rose up against the other Gods and Goddesses the Nekonor and their creations followed suit, becoming the mainline of attack against the Aethoral.   The Patrons The Patrons are the final and most numerous subset of Gods and Goddesses. They were created by Aevum and each serves as the embodiment of a different race or idea. They are often the weakest of the Gods, but their strength and abilities vary wildly from Patron to Patron. During the Years of Blood many Patrons joined the Nekonor, while others stayed loyal to Teho and the Aethoral.
