Ḱyoto

Imperial Field Marshal Ḱyoto Ishigaru

Ḱyoto was the imperial field marshal of the Shinotayaku Empire until his untimely death at the Battle of the Golden Fields. He was known for his victories in the first great war, the pacifications of Stava and Voradhris and the annihilation of the Xin people.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Ḱyoto was by all accounts a healthy man, owing to his noble upbringing, great wealth and military training. He was muscular but not very tall, he had black hair and black eyes. He was also a skilled duelist and could wield many weapons or even create his own makeshift ones. Most of the time he was dressed in heavy armor or a military uniform. He had a long beard which he promised to cut if he ever lost a battle, he did so once in his life, in the battle of the golden plains.

Personal history

Early Life

Ḱyoto was born to the ruling family of Vyris and received the best education money could buy. At the age of 15 he entered the imperial officer school and graduated top of his class. He participated in many battles and performed admirably. However, corrupt officials tried to destroy his career to defend their own positions and it became very hard for Kýoto to get the promotion he so desired.

Career

Nevertheless, he rose through the ranks after many years and was sent to cull a rebellion in the recently conquered provinces of Stava and Voradhris. For his exemplary results he was promoted to the position of imperial field marshal. In the east  of the empire the Xin tribes were still powerful, so the emperor sent Ḱyoto to conquer their land or wipe them out. He succeeded in his efforts with a slow, methodical approach, where the Xin strongholds would be taken one by one and their citizens used as meatshields whenever the Xin missile cavalry arrived. Eventually the Xin empire was defeated but Ḱyoto failed in wiping out their army completly. The descendants of the Xin people still roam the empire today, hunting stragglers and raiding villages or caravans to avenge their fallen civilization.

First Great War and Death

When the Shinotayaku empire invaded the west in the first great war, it was Ḱyoto that led the campaign. He won victory after victory until his armies arrived to the Heartlands and were defeated in detail by Arthur Ilvenan's army. Unfortunately for the empire, Ḱyoto was finally defeated in the battle of the golden plains, despite having superior numbers and better trained troops. The battle marked the end of the war but Ḱyoto's legacy did not die out. He was celebrated as a hero by the empire, and was hated by the western nations. Arthur Ilvenar, who had vanquished the field marshal, respected the man and studied his tactics.

Intellectual Characteristics

It is believed that Ḱyoto was also driven by a rigid sense of honour, and that any stain on that honour had to be paid back in full. Those who crossed him, like the men who tried to hamper his career, he punished ruthlessly, even if it was several years later. Ḱyoto would rarely relax, he could work for several days if necessary, only stopping to eat, relieve himself and sleep. He also possessed incredible bravery and never backed away from a fight when it was offered unless he was expressly ordered to do so or it was more practical to attack later.

Morality & Philosophy

Ḱyoto believed that it was his duty to serve the emperor and the empire to the best of his ability, anything less was unacceptable. He trained himself to perfection, consumed large amounts of military theory and fought in the front line with his troops. In keeping with his ideology he did not tolerate mistakes or disobedience, and those who he deemed guilty of this would be punished harshly. The opposite was true for those who served him well, he was as known for rewarding those with talent and drive as he was for punishing those who lacked it.
