Ausonevi

Ausonevi is the name given to the refugee group that came to call Auscour Island home following the Declaration of Aurant Expulsion in 574. This group was primarily made up of visaurants and their families from the territories of southern Leland (modern day Reisouth, Cosonia, and Cesland). Because of the diversity of individuals who sought refuge on the island, Ausonevi culture is considered to be an amalgamation of southern cultures.    When word spread of supplies being "temporarily stored" on Nauscour Island (the original name of Auscour Island) by the Jincosa, refugees made their way to the island in hopes of escaping execution. Once there, they were completely isolated from the outside world by necessity--if anyone made contact with those on the island, law enforcement would be forced to address the gathering of enemies to the Queendom that they were presently willing to turn a blind eye to. For the first few decades, the population grew as more refugees arrived, but as a society began to develop on the island, new generations who knew nothing of the world outside of the island except that it was dangerous were born.   With the fall of the queendom in 711, almost 150 years following the aurant expulsion, those residing on Auscour Island no longer had to remain isolated. A small party of Jincosa was responsible for delivering the news. The significance of that day is marked every year with celebration, including a ceremonial boat ride to Escour Island to present offerings of thanks to the Jincosa. These two ethnic groups remain tightly bound to this day.   Despite being free to once again travel to the main land, most of the Ausonevi chose to stay on the island because they knew no other life. To this day, most will travel, but few stay away for long.
