Alisdara Olevera

Alisdara Olevera is the sixth-born child of the Olevera family and estranged sister of Abbelithe Olevera (co-protaganist of Green Thumb, Golden Tongue).

Appearance

Alisdara is a petite young woman with thick, dark hair that falls just below her shoulders. She carries herself with the confidence and grace of a woman raised in upper-class society and dresses with the classic simplicity of someone of her station. She often wears heels to make herself appear taller.

Mental

Alisdara knows how to play the part of the sophisticated young woman in public, but in reality she can be rather vulgar and tends to lack a filter when in private, unless around her youngest brother. She can be selfish, as growing up in a large family she had to look out for herself. Though not particularly quick witted or intelligent, she can hold her own in social sparring situations and speaks with a level of confidence that can intimidate others even when she knows she is wrong. A fiercely proud young woman, she doesn't take kindly to being slighted or lied to.   Though she is known as something of a writer, few know that her preferred genre is enflux erotic fiction, inspired by her own experiences and the dark family secrets she has been privy to. She would be mortified if those close to her learned of her true writing passion, moreso than if they learned of her sexual exploits.

History

As the sixth of eight children born to Isobelle and Lazar Olevera, Alisdara grew up in a household where many expectations were placed upon her but she faced very little scrutiny. Like most of her siblings, Alisdara manifested Power of Flux as a young child and was put on the expected path of specializing in calligraphic Flux. She was not considered especially talented in this respect, but she was content to be unremarkable in the field compared to her highly competitive older siblings. This was especially so given that her sister Abbelithe, seven years her senior who appeared to be a null, received the bulk of their father's criticism and, unfortunately, abuse.   Alisdara saw little of Abbelithe, who shut herself away in her room most of the time, and was too young to fully understand why her older siblings treated the girl with such contempt. Most of the time she forgot that Abbelithe even existed until life as she knew it changed abruptly.   When Alisdara was eight years old, Abbelithe murdered their father by means that she was far too young to understand. Abbelithe, the daughter everyone thought to be a null, turned out to possess Power of Aura and had extinguished their father's aura, thereby killing him. Isobelle sheltered Alisdara and her two younger siblings from the trial and the public scandal, but they were indoctrinated with two simple facts: visaurants were evil and Abbelithe had received the unholy power as a reward for being devout to Siempre, the goddess of destruction. Abbelithe was sentenced to death, but her execution was halted by intervention from Central Court in Deamei and she was banished from Irocra.   Life understandably wasn't the same after the trial. The oldest of the Olevera siblings, Aimee and Alessandro, took the opportunity to leave the scandal behind them by moving out of the house, though Aimee would remain nearby as the new owner of their father's business. Isobelle, never having been a particularly doting mother, became even less interested in her children. Though they maintained the public image required to stay afloat in the most sophisticated of social circles, the family was dissolving from the inside. Rumors swirled anew when Isobelle, still widowed and unmarried, gave birth to Enso three years later. Alisdara was mostly left to her own devices and discovered a passion for enflux creative writing, a contrast to the legal and business enflux writing her siblings pursued. She would also end up responsible for Enso much of the time and the two would become very close.   Shortly after her thirteenth birthday, Alisdara received the second biggest shock of her life when she began seeing faint cloudy shapes surrounding the people around her. She immediately panicked, but told no one for fear of being treated with the same level of contempt that her family spoke of Abbelithe. She did her best to ignore it, but eventually had to admit to herself that she was, in fact, seeing auras. It made her question everything she knew about Abbelithe and visaurants, whether they were inherently evil given that Alisdara considered herself to be a good person.   As Alisdara grew into her late teen years, Isobelle turned to her as a confidant, though mostly during drunken rants and confessions. It was through these conversations that Alisdara learned many family secrets--both of her parents' affairs, underhanded business practices, tales of political intrigue. The salacious details would strongly influence Alisdara's creative writing, leading her down a more erotic path than anyone would have expected.   The more Alisdara learned from her mother, though, the more she was convinced that what she knew of Abbelithe had to be misunderstanding if not outright lies. It was what would eventually cement her decision to apply to Ilium University in Deamei City and search out the supposed monster that was her estranged sister.

Novel Appearances (Spoilers)

Alisdara is first seen from afar, touring the Ilium University campus with her mother. Her appearance causes Abbelithe great distress, and Abbelithe leaves the cafe she is seated at before her estranged family can catch sight of her.   Alisdara's next appearance is in the public gallery during Abbelithe's initial hearing for commutation of her sentence. Abbelithe introduces a procedural precedent that allows for one of her estranged family members to cast the deciding vote on the outcome of the proceedings in lieu of High Inquisitor Montay Cabrera whose personal connection with the family could bias him against the facts of the case. This leads to a discussion about putting undo burden on her mother who would understandably be the one to cast this vote. To everyone's shock, Alisdara stands up and announces her presence and her willingness to cast a vote in her mother's place.   This situation leads to some legal grey area. Alisdara is too young to participate in legal proceedings without a sponsor, which would then require her mother to travel from Irocra, thereby meaning her mother would end up casting the vote anyway as the legally most affected by her husband's murder who is present at court. Alisdara requests instead that Abbelithe, who meets all the legal requirements to serve as a sponsor, be formally appointed as her sponsor for this situation. This, of course, leads to a conversation of conflicts of interest with Abbelithe having power over someone who will decide her fate.   In the end it is decided that Alisdara is of sound enough mind to make this decision, and the final choice is left to Abbelithe whether or not she wishes to become Alisdara's legal sponsor. Before she agrees, the two are allowed to have a private conversation for the first time in over a decade. The exchange is understandably awkward and tense, but Alisdara wins Abbelithe's trust by confiding in her the truth that she had sought out Abbelithe because she, too, is a visaurant. Abbelithe agrees to the arrangement and Alisdara votes for the commutation of Abbelithe's sentence.   A few days later Abbelithe reaches out to Alisdara for her help. Abbelithe suspects that High Inquisitor Cabrera is involved in a conspiracy against her and has falsely imprisoned a friend of hers as a result. As a friend of the family, Cabrera would be more receptive to Alisdara asking questions than anyone else in Deamei. Alisdara believes Abbelithe to be paranoid, but agrees to confront Cabrera. The exchange happens in the Menudo temple, where Alisdara expects Cabrera to be honest with her. Instead, she can tell by his aura that he is lying about his involvement in the conspiracy. Angered by the lies of a man she previously believed to be honorable, Alisdara reveals that her mother is in possession of letters exchanged between Cabrera and her father that prove the two had a long-standing affair. She uses this information to blackmail Cabrera into releasing Abbelithe's friend and stepping down as High Inquisitor.
