Ehrongibri

Ehrongibri (lit. ground bird) are a species of large flightless birds native to Idohe Forest in Leis. While they originate from this forest, they have been domesticated and transplanted to many other areas of Leis. They are typically used as a riding animal, but their feathers are also used for decorative purposes.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Ehrongibri are characterized by their large frame and two strong legs, along with a colourful set of feathers. Their wings are large, though they are mostly used for intimidation, since the birds are flightless. Their large beaks are useful for cracking open various seeds and digging up roots.

Genetics and Reproduction

Ehrongibri commonly lay a clutch of two to three eggs. Like chickens from our world, the birds will lay eggs regardless of fertilization. When an egg has been fertilized by a male of the species, the birds hatch as small creatures about the size of a dog.

Growth Rate & Stages

The birds start as eggs, similar in size to that of an ostrich. After a period of approximately 30 days, the eggs will hatch into large (though not as large as the parent) chicks, who are coated in fur rather than feathers at birth. Over the course of two or so years, the ehrongibri chicks grow to full maturity, growing in their feathers and being able to eat solid food.

Ecology and Habitats

Ehrongibri  are used to the dense forests of Idohe. While they thrive in other conditions as well, they are most at home within the trees, scouring the forest floor for fallen fruit, small animals, and herbs and roots.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Ehrongibri are omnivores, and will eat almost anything edible they can get their hands on. This includes but is not limited to, fish, large insects, small animals, herbs and other plant matter, roots, fruit, and miscellaneous vegetation.
