Sir Cunobacha

Cunobacha

Father of Sir Mabon the Stoneman and Bors.
The first Knight among the last Belgae.
Little is known about the ancestor who sired Cunobacha, only that Atreciu was an well-regarded Praefecti in the army led by Magnus Maximianus during the ill-fated attempt to claim the heart of the Roman Empire and returned to Britain after the fall of his lord. His son, Cunobacha, was born to inherit this time, but knew little of his own father or the traditions that went ahead of these. The only thing he was given was a little silver medallion depicting a capricorn.
Cunobacha was raised in the shadow of a father that died in a foreign land, and grew up in a time of uncertainty as the tyrant Gracian Municeps ruled Britannia. When General Stilicho arrived in 398, Cunobacha’s tribe, the Belgae, were among the primary supporters of restoring Roman rule.
Dates
  • 405 AD.: Frisian, Picts and Irish raids increase as the Roman military was pulled away to handle internal feuding in the Empire.
  • 406 AD.: Cunobacha was given the new title of knight at the age of twenty-one. The Belgae fought with the Atrebates and the Durotriges in these days, old bad blood continuing the feud between the groups.
  • 410 AD.: Sir Cunobacha was among the few warriors that tried to maintain Pax Romana, when the Empire abandoned Britannia.
  • 411-415 AD.: Chaos ruled. Sir Cunobacha and his clan tried to weather the storm in Venta Belgae, everyone was fighting each other due to tribal affiliation, faith and wealth.
  • 413 AD.: That year, as the Atrebates, Berroc Saxons and Durotriges took Venta Belgae and put it to the sword and flame, the Belgae effectively stopped existing as a tribe. Sir Cunobacha and his clan fled to the hall of his aunt’s husband, Lord Rhydderch of Sarum, whose son and heir, Rheinallt was his nephew. Cunobacha was given a stretch of land to care for, and several warriors who followed his word. The Lands of Salis and Sarum became unbound by tribal lines, first place of its kind in all of Britain.
  • 424 AD: Cunobacha died to an illness.
