Rufon de Ebble

Lord Knight of Ebble Rufon ap Robyn

The unacknowledged bastard brother of Lord Roderick.
Knight of Ebble, which he has built up from a manor to an actual castle during the twenty-four years that he's been Salisbuy's southern borderguard.

"They call him the Shepherd, a title that Sir Rufon hates, but can't refute as his mother was a sheepherder's daughter and he was raised among the peasants of Chalke.
It was only when his brother, the young Roderick, insisted on having his young brother squired that he was even acknowledged.

You ask me, I think that he'd have been a lot happier with remaining a simple shepherd."

Personal history

Born and raised among peasants until the young Roderick insisted on bringing his baseborn brother into the fold, Rufon came of age in the days of Aurelius' Return. He rode with his brother, but his skills as a warrior was never as good as any of his peers. However, he did have a talent for administration and a real knack for talking with the peasantry.   He was notoriously unfit for courtly life, and had an old grudge with Elad One-Eye . His own mentor, Sir Amig, often prodded Rufon to be the staunch voice of the people, a task that got him at odds with especially Lord Seith and made him quite unwelcome in most of Salisbury's halls.    His brightest moment came during the Battle of Salisbury, where Rufon was the knight that managed to stop the Saxon poisoner before. He's never really forgiven himself for not acting sooner, and his isolation in Ebble might stem from this. He was a good friend of Bles of Aldertree and Perrin de Toulouse but they've been dead for years.   He has been wed twice, once to a Cornish lady reccommended by Duke Gorlois, but she died in childbirth. Once to a Lady of Silchester, at Ulfius's behest, but Medea died from a winter chill a mere year after their marriage.
