Shield of the Dragon Turtle

Sharp scales from a Dragon Turtle are expertly moulded around a sturdy frame. When the shield catches the light, flashes of green energy seem to spark from the scales.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Whilst wielded, the shield provides +2 to AC.   Once per turn, if a creature makes a melee attack against you which misses, the creature must succeed on a DC 14 Dexterity Saving Throw else their speed is reduced to 0.   Stunning Presence (1 Charge) - When a creature within 5 feet of you hits you with an attack, you can expend a charge to halve the physical damage dealt and absorb it into the shield. The shield retains this energy until the end of your next turn. After activation, the physical damage of each melee attack received until the end of your next turn is halved, and the radius of effect increases by 5ft for each successful hit.   On your turn, you may use a Bonus Action to release the stored energy in the accumulated radius (minimum 5ft), centred on yourself. All surrounding creatures in this area must succeed on a DC18 Constitution Saving Throw or be stunned until the end of their next turn.   Alternatively, you may use your Bonus Action to strike the shield and extend the effect until the end of your next turn. This strike does not count towards the Overload effect.   If neither action is taken, the stored energy dissipates at the end of your turn and the effect ends.   The shield regains its charge at dawn.   Overload - If the shield absorbs more than 6 successful hits, it is no longer capable of retaining the energy. A nova of force energy is released, all creatures within a 30ft radius, including the shield-bearer, receive 5d10 Force Damage and must succeed on a DC 20 Consitution Saving Throw or be stunned until the end of their next turn.   If Overload is activated, the shield regains its charge in 1d10 days.
