The High Dragons

It is said the High Dragons created Layeil, and once ruled all the other races. The High Dragons are worshipped by some, feared by others, and some believe them to be nothing more than fairy tales. The High Dragons once fought each other in endless battle bringing all the lower races to near extinction before the pact was formed. The eldest three named Order, Balance, and Chaos would share the land as equals.   The three then appealed to their siblings to swear fealty to the eldest three. Mercy, Hope, and Serenity understood the need for the covenant and immediately swore fealty to Balance. Now six strong the High Dragons of the covenant began subjugating their brethren. After many years of battle the High Dragons Unity, Ambition, and Justice swore fealty to Order, while Despair, Strife, and Vengeance swore their own fealty to Chaos. Each High Dragon was given a great tower to govern their subjects yet would be subject to the eldest three who would rule from the Citadel together.   The eldest three then chose a race to champion their causes, and keep each other and their siblings in line. Order chose the most ambitious of races, but also the youngest which he sought to mold in his image, he chose the race of man. Balance chose the wisest of races, as well as the oldest which he believed would give them the experience needed to rule. He chose the race of Essanti. Chaos chose the most brutal of races, one which was neither young or old, in which he could sow chaos among the other races with. He chose the Vork.   As time passed the High Dragons grew weary and began to slumber. The children of the High Dragons, the Dragons, or the Kin, became the dominant species and decided they should rule over the other races. Wars raged once again and races were pushed to the brink of extinction before the High Dragons reawakened. Angered at their children the High Dragons removed much of their magic as well as their ability to speak to the other races. As the High Dragons grew weary once more it was decided the races, as they were so short lived, could not be trusted to obey their master's orders and so one race must be selected to rule. As Balance never took sides against either of his brothers and ensured neither Order nor Chaos could overwhelm the other, it was his champions which were chosen to rule. After they betrayed Balance, the High Dragons awakened once more and broke the Essanti, before slumbering once more. The Vork, champions of Chaos, were given the opportunity to rule. After the Vork slaughtered their master's children, the High Dragons once again awakened. The Vork were broken and thus Man, the champions of Order, and the last of the mid-races were left to rule...   The High Dragons and their Towers :   Order - Tower of Discipline   Unity - Tower of Authority   Ambition - Tower of Sunlight   Justice - Tower of Resolve   Balance - Tower of Wisdom   Serenity - Tower of Harmony   Hope - Tower of Starlight   Mercy - Tower of Forgiveness   Chaos - Tower of Avarice   Strife - Tower of Anguish   Despair - Tower of Shadows   Vengeance - Tower of Retribution
