The Myredun Caliphate

The Myredun Caliphate are the reigning leaders of The Hidden Sands. An elite group of extraordinarily wealthy individuals, they prioritize wealth over all else and will do anything to protect it. Their larger cities are generally very well fortified, while those that don't provide much in terms of economic growth are generally left to fend for themselves. Historically, the Caliphate has been controlled by the family bearing the same name, aging back hundreds of years. The title is passed on through death, beginning with the oldest surviving member of the family. Many elders have elected to pass on their title while still alive, so as to reduce their stress in the ending stages of their lives. Though generally pleasant, none of the Myredun know any kind of life without excessive wealth, and thusly don't usually leave their capital city of Erith. They appoint regents to oversee local townships and cities in their stead while they conduct their business in the capital. Each sect of the family is responsible for one of the seven major towns of The Hidden Sands.

Structure

The high council of the Myredun family. The reigning leader of the Caliphate heads the high council, with the highest ranking member of each of the five other sects comprising the rest of the group.

Public Agenda

The Caliphate's main objective is to accrue as much wealth as they possibly can through trade and tourism. They try to ensure that the border cities all are well maintained for this; they see it as an investment. As such, they do their best to at least make it seem like the local populace is fairly well-off.

Assets

The Caliphate Military; thousands and thousands of troops trained from birth with the sole purpose of protecting the wealth of the Myredun. Additionally, riches from the gemstone trade are among their vast fortune, as well as a monolithic structure to house the High Council in the Capital of Erith.

Demography and Population

All species are generally accepted within the Caliphate, though humans tend to be the majority. The Capital of Erith is more mixed due to the exposure to other cultures for business deals, followed by port cities such as Culcheth and Caerfryddin which are decently diverse. Other cities, such as Colkirk and Fortaare, are mostly humans, as they don't generate much in terms of trade or tourism.

Foreign Relations

The Myredun Caliphate is on generally good terms with all of the other nations. They don't have any known enemies, as they are primarily a trade state. That's not to say that they aren't willing to protect what they have, as they do command a significant military, but through diplomacy the other regions have established positive trade relationships and understand that the Caliphate want to generate wealth for themselves, not steal it from other nations.
