Blackout Zones

Blackout Zones are areas of Talconos where energy supply is scarce due to lack of infrastructure, extreme temperatures, or simply people wanting to pull the plug on conventional technologies.

These zones are usually areas of the city furthermost from the central hub, but still within the inhabitable ring. As only rudimentary technology with low-energy requirements can be used here, it is very useful to those who don’t want to be in the eye of the Galactical Alliance.

Most Talconos residents of the Central Hub avoid these Blackout Zones as it is hard to track down criminals or other unsavory individuals when crime happens. And if it isn’t the crime, it is the extreme temperatures of the Outer Ring.

EC-BOA

Residents in extreme cold Blackout Zones (also known as EC-BOA) survive by employing heating suits and double-insulated buildings with remedial climate control. Fires are crucial to their survival otherwise they’ll freeze to death in their sleep.

All traveling outside needs mobile transport, as most heating suits only maintain functionality for one hour before being nothing but burdensome armor. If you can afford a heating suit that lasts longer, you probably don’t live in the area and will have all the residents after you to make their own suits last longer. But you won’t know until at the last minute, as these people have learned to be more methodical in getting what they want from targets.

Temperatures in these zones can reach to -30 Randalls (known as -80 degrees Celsius for the humans reading) during the night. Thus, it is advised to complete all time-consuming errands during the day cycle.

EH-BOA

Similar to the EC-BOAs, residents in extreme heat Blackout Zones (EH-BOA) use cooling suits and double-insulated buildings as well. In fact, many of the conventions used in EC-BOAs can be applied here.

However, ice and other coolants are extremely valuable. It is a common practice that these two types of zones will exchange their most valuable goods to survive. Unless you’re a criminal who doesn’t have many morals and just takes what you need.

It is important that all organic residents have a breathing apparatus to humidify the air they breathe in either zone. Suffocation is a common way to die, second to petty murder and work-related accidents.
