Samir River

The largest, most important trade route in Kanter Kingdom, the Samir River (pronounced SAY-mur) goes cross continent and provides most of the trade across Kadran (the northern continent).
Being one of the few navigable waterways in Kadran, it is invalueable for trading and shipping to the kingdoms along it. It is clear and bright, and quite deep (30 ft. down in some areas). It is enormously wide (45 feet across on average), and is a favorite leisure spot for Kantrians, as well as a place to wash clothes, and, much like the real world Nile River, it is infested with large crocodiles.
Unfourtunately, it harbors a secret nation of evil merfolk that take small children once a week as living sacrifices to Ilyan, their deity. The people near the river usually don't know about this, but due to the size of the river, this knowledge (or lack thereof) is hardly canon. Dwarves have called it "The Deep Waters", though they very rarely come to view it due to their hate and distrust of humans.
Many people come to it to see its clear waters and to swim in them during the summer. It is a known attraction to visiting foreigners.

Geography

The floor of the river is littered with underwater plants such as seaweed and coral. In the deepest areas (30 ft. deep), evil merfolk dwell, corrupted by the water demons that used to dwell here before the humans fought them out.

Fauna & Flora

Small fish dwell in the shallower ends, and merfolk lie deeper down. Seaweed dots its floor, and coral reefs in it are also not unheard of.

Natural Resources

Fish in the shallow parts, clean water to any who purify it.

Tourism

Visiting foreigners often come to see this river, and many riverside villages dot its "coast".
Alternative Name(s)
The Deep Waters (by the dwarves that sometimes come south).

Interesting to have the secret nation in the river but I wonder if abducting children once a week isn't a bit much? Surely people will need to notice that or is the amount of people living near the river enormous?

Well, the river flows through an entire half-continent. The merfolk live in many small groups spread throughout, so that's total abductions in the whole river, not focused in one spot. Prolly should'a made that clearer, though.
