Shelly
During the summer, when the ice of Sorim mount melts, a thick coloidal jelly rises from the lime terrace lakes on its slopes. This coloidal material is edible and harvested by the companies of the nearby town of Sorimstaat who prepare it for consumption and exportation. The lakes are occupy the entire southern slope of mount Sorim, and due to the way shelly is generated the gross sum harvest of all the companies can reach the low tons.

History
The material was first found around 200 years in the past when the first humans discovered the lake. The first group of humans dedicated to the harvesting of the material was formed and the town was formed around the harvesting. Latter other groups came to gather Shelly and developped their own recipies. This new competition caused new technologies, recipies and even holidays to eventually be developped around it.
I don't get why people react like that to the stuff, it's not even that tasty. But it brings the money in and I can't complain about that!

The harvest and comercialization of shelly is the main activity of most business of of Sorimstaat. as a result the companies have developped a marketing and propaganda machine that includes shelly themed canteens, bard songs about the lime terrace lakes, their beauty and the shelly therein, free caravans to transport people into Sorimstaat, guided tours of the terrace lakes, a mid-summer festival revolving around shelly harvesting, etc...
The tows people have gotten the cultural significance of this product ingrained into them over the generations, even though most of them will admit, when pressed about it in private, that shelly isn't that big a deal, but it brings a lot of money and business into the town.

According to Sorimstaat law, shelly can be harvested in a limited amount of lakes for personal consumption, although those people aren't allowed to sell what they harvest. Large scale harvest and commercialization required a license which is provided only to a certain number of companies. Use of shelly for the production of alcoholic drinks is outlawed due to the blinding effect it has on most etnicities.
