Redsand Cliffs

The Redsand Cliffs are an arid area of cliffs on northern Zaquii, they get their name from the deep red dust which is abundant in the area. After the war between the chromatic and metallic Dragon born of Zaquii, the metallic Dragon born made their home within the area of the Redsand Cliffs. There are multiple metallic Dragon born settlements but the most notable is the main city of the metallic Dragon born, known as Fermeas.

Geography

The Redsand Cliffs are, as the name implies, a network of cliffs and canyons characterized by red soil. This red soil is caused by an abundance of iron in the soil of the north-western Zaquii area. Only one river runs through the cliffs, known as Chalk River. It is called Chalk River because that the water picks up all the dust, clay, and dirt, making it taste comparable to chalk. Since the Chalk River is naturally not the cleanest water to drink, water from the river is often sieved or distilled before it is drunk. Other than the Chalk River there are not many options for acquiring fresh water, it rarely rains anywhere on Zaquii and it's especially dry around the cliffs so dehydration is a big threat.

Fauna & Flora

Since the cliffs are naturally so dry, large green plants do not grow often. Most of the plants around the cliffs are shrubs and small bushes, cacti and other succulents are quite common as well though. The largest animals to be found are armadillo since most large animals cannot survive off so little water. Types of lizards are quite common though, as well as bugs like termites or ants. Even though the Chalk River is so dirty, some types fish and hippos do survive within it. Vultures are extremely common around the Redsand Cliffs, feeding off whatever scraps they can find.

Natural Resources

While the Redsand Cliffs are a dry and dangerous place, they are not without wealth. The very iron that gives the cliffs their name is also extremely abundant within the exposed earth. Huge deposits of iron can be found within the mahogany soil and are mined by the metallic Dragon born. The sand itself makes a fine candidate for producing glass, glass made with sand from the Redsand Cliffs is often noted as having a slightly red tint.
