Narissa
Narissa and her sister were raised in the orphanage outside the walls of Talsworth as only human children were allowed inside the city orphanage. As a child she was always jealous of how the human children had a better orphanage, one that did not leak water onto their bed during the rainy season. It was not easy being an outsider and even harder yet when you don't even know your own parents. She did the best she could, always looked after her sister who was not completely mentally healthy as she was. Around her twelfth birthday, she shared a dream with every child there and upon waking up soon discovered she could now read the thoughts of anyone around her. It was a little scary and depressing to hear what everyone actually thought of her and her sister, that was until a few days ago when the orphanage was burnt to the ground by a mysterious fire that could not be put out. During this event, her sister was taken away from her and was escorted directly to Sanctuary Island, for healing as they told her.
With no place to live, she headed out and lived on the streets but was quickly becoming aware of her magical gifts that came to her in the middle of the one night. Being able to use magic without fully understanding how, she started to make a name for herself and was never too trusting of humans due to her childhood, preferring the company of non-humans. She tried plenty of times to visit her sister but they would never allow her to visit saying that visitors were not allowed on the island but there was nothing to worry about. She was able to find one of the workers off duty visiting Gildenvale, after reading her thoughts discovered her sister was being tested and experimented on due to her natural abilities of making and manipulating fires.
She now travels around the area, searching for magical events that may explain what happened to her and her sister. She has never given up on trying to find a way of rescuing her sister and still to this day is a goal that drives her. When there is some unexplained magical event, she travels to the location searching for answers and along the way had gained a vast amount of knowledge that the Empire does not want their citizens to know, the land was changing, it was being corrupted by negative energies and would soon become out of hand. Time was growing short but she did have patience and knew her time would come soon enough to make a difference and also to rescue her sister so they could leave these lands before it was too late.
Being able to read thoughts of those around her has made her moody, quick to change emotions and tries to avoid being around others. She finds that males are the worst to be around as their thoughts are always so disgusting when they see her. Over the years, she has only made friends with a few non-human females that she trusted at least a little. One of these friends was Sky from Kilerth, she was very close to her. This was because Sky never had any bad thoughts about Narissa, never had hidden motives, was never trying to use her and even if her mind was slightly childlike her thoughts were almost always pure. Besides, it was always nice to play with all of her pets. Matter of fact she was on her way to visit her friend when she started to hear a lot of strange rumors about the Belmire lake glowing at night, odd things happening to the marine life and other rumors that made her stop at Belmire so she could personally investigate into what may be going on there.
