Demice Lake

Various tales speak of the haunted waters of Demice lake, and how the water is corrupted. Tales disagree on why, some suggest it was dark magic, while others suggest a parasite of alien origin. The lake's water in undrinkable, and has an acidic taste. Over exposure or submersion in the lake allegedly results in corrosion of the skin and eyes, and ingesting it results in abdominal and muscle pain, as well as fatigue, irritability, temporary infertility, headaches, and in rare cases, seizures. Historically, babies were baptised in the water from Demice Lake, due to the convenience for some towns relative to the rivers or Purespring Lake. Around the same time, the number of cases of learning difficulties in children increased, especially autism, and many spotted the correlation. Soon after, this practice was banned by all chapels, and holy water was instead to be always taken from Purespring Lake. Uncoincidentally, the number of cases of autism and other developmental and learning disabilities drastically decreased in the future generations after this change was implemented. No-one discussed whether this correlation was a causation however, so it remains another folk tale. Additionally, some cultures have renamed autism as Demice's Disease due to this 'link'. The Rayures Clan have protested against this, and argue autism should not be considered a disease, and instead we should be accommodating of everyone, regardless of any 'disease' they may have.

Geography

This lake has plains on all sides, but exists close enough to the tundra for it to snow here in the winter. The lake may dry up if it doesn't rain enough. It is fairly deep, and the soils are fairly rich in nutrients. However, the banks appear barren and cracked if the water retreats in a dry season. The banks are steep on all sides except the south east, which has a gradual incline, which blends into the steeper banks on either side.

Fauna & Flora

The lake is abundant with fish and plants. However, they have been twisted by the energy of the lake, so most plants their are poisonous or venomous, and the fish are overly aggressive. This impact isn't limited to the plants and animals living there, any animals which visit the lake behave unusually, and the plants around the lake (for about a half mile radius) also exhibit the same toxic or otherwise altered characteristics.
