Hawk Bane River
The Hawk Bane begins at the union of the Swiftfoot and Iron Heart rivers. It then races south before plunging over a half mile wide waterfall into the Tears of Winter.
The Hawk Bane averages about a mile wide through most of its journey.
It's narrowest point is located several miles south of Last Ford where it is only 0.5 miles wide. Referred to as the Narrows, this section of the river is swifter than the rest.
The widest area is the elbow of the turn east before the falls. That section is 10 miles across at the widest. The outer curve bends back before rushing over the falls.
The Hawk Bane is a strong river with the water flowing at about 2 mph. in the narrows, the speed increases to 4 mph. Near Angtris, it travels about 3.5 mph and reaches speeds up to 5 mph at the falls.
During the Spring, run off swells the Hawk Bane and increases all river speeds by 50%. Until the middle of summer, it is only possible to travel down river. Oared boats are simply unable to make or maintain headway against the Run-Off and the winds are not conducive to sailing ships.
