The Tikrachyds

The Mysterious Extinction of the Tikrachyds

The Expanze, with its vast stretches of golden desert sands and enigmatic allure, once teemed with life, particularly the Tikrachyds - a remarkable race of large insectoids. These creatures were more than mere insects; they played a crucial role in the delicate ecosystem of the region as a caste-system hive of scavengers and carriers.
Field Notes of Dr. Henrik Voss - Entry 78: Tikrachyd Behavior I've been observing the Tikrachyds for weeks now. Their societal structure is fascinating, a complex caste system with unique roles for each bug. The Regal Sentinels, with their defensive prowess, and the Sovereign Guardians, strategizing and leading. It's heartbreaking to think they're no longer here, leaving only the memories of their once-thriving hive. - [Dr. Henrik Voss, Entomologist]
Within the intricate society of the Tikrachyds, different castes served distinct functions. The fearsome Warrior Bugs formed the backbone of their army, while the Nebuladrones were their juvenile warriors, still growing into their formidable exoskeletons. Tunnelworkers specialized in burrowing tunnels, enabling their hives to thrive deep beneath the ground. In the skies, Skyriders soared gracefully, pouncing upon unsuspecting prey from above. The Celestial Cartographers, a more peaceful caste, were explorers and workers responsible for surveying and gathering essential resources for their hives.   But the Tikrachyds' existence was abruptly extinguished, leaving behind an eerie void that sent shivers down the spines of all who heard their tale. The annihilation of the Tikrachyds came as a sinister consequence of The Shadewind Culture that struck in 2450 of the 2nd Age.   The Shadewind, a calamity of unknown origin, brought sudden and devastating destruction upon the region. Whispers among tribal histories spoke of an "unseen death" that passed over the desert like a malevolent shade of wind, consuming all traces of the once-active Tikrachyd hive. In the aftermath, The Expanze was left in a state of desolation, its once vibrant life replaced by haunting silence.   The Tikrachyds' absence left a void that was swiftly filled by horrifying giants of metal and gears - the TokSlugz and TokWormz. These monstrous mechanical entities emerged, seemingly drawn by the vacuum of power left behind. The TokSlugz, towering from 25 to 45 meters in length, would traverse the desert like slugs or whales, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. Meanwhile, the TokWormz, immense beings that ranged up to a staggering 700 to 1000 meters, roamed the deep desert, their mechanical forms an eerie echo of the Tikrachyds' once majestic presence.   Observations have revealed that the TokSlugz and TokWormz possess a relentless hunger for destruction, targeting specific materials such as spell components and adventurers' gear. Their predatory behavior has turned the Expanze into a treacherous wasteland, warning all who venture within its boundaries to proceed with utmost caution.   Theories surrounding the enigmatic extinction of the Tikrachyds abound, with some speculating that the catastrophe transformed the once vibrant hive into mobile machines of death. Others postulate a connection between The Shadewind disaster and the emergence of the mechanical monstrosities. However, the truth remains elusive, buried beneath the sand and secrets of the Expanze.   Today, the Expanze stands as a haunting reminder of the mysterious past - a realm once inhabited by the Tikrachyds, now haunted by the malevolent presence of the TokSlugz and TokWormz. As adventurers and scholars seek to unravel the mysteries of this ever-shifting landscape, they must do so with vigilance and a deep respect for the ancient secrets that remain concealed within the dunes.

Tikrachyd Info

Before their sudden disappearance, the Tikrachyds played a significant role in the Expanze as a caste-system hive of scavengers. The sprawling Tikrachyd Hive burrowed deep in the grounds below the Expanze, and its insectoid inhabitants were known for their formidable size and strength. These large creatures roamed the desert, their biology and bodies seemingly evolved to consume and transport Kraykatyzate-rich soil, rock, and ore around the providence. They were observed engaging in collective efforts to detonate Sky Islands and harvest the valuable remains.   The Tikrachyd Hive operated on a strict caste system, with each bug having a specific role and function:
  The Tikrachyd Hive Structure

Tikrachyd Hive

  • Chronospider: The most common Arachnid and the backbone of their army.
  • Nebuladrone: Juvenile Warriors. These bugs are smaller and have a weaker exoskeleton than the adults.
  • Tunnelworker: A variant of the Chronospider, specialized in burrowing tunnels.
  • Starspitter: A Warrior sub-species, spitting plasma at enemies from afar.
  • Voidtiger: This species is a sub-variant of the Chronospider with incredibly tough armor, making it a deadly threat.
  • Regal Sentinel: A ferocious variant of the Chronospider, commonly encountered defending colonies with a Monarch.
  • Sovereign Guardian: Like the Regal Sentinel, this type acts as defenders of colonies and commanders of bugs.
  • Skyrider: A winged bug capable of flight, pouncing upon targets from above.
  • Celestial Cartographer: Not a deadly threat, these bugs are workers and explorers.
  • Omega Pursuer: A fearless and self-sacrificing bug, relentlessly chasing down enemies.
  • Mindweaver: These small bugs are capable of infiltrating sentient bodies, taking control of hosts for subterfuge and manipulation.
  • Temporal Titan: A large shortsighted worker, akin to a bug rhino.
  • Breeding Consort: Indicates the presence of a Queen Bug, responsible for the species' expansion.
  • Acidrain Tanker: A large deadly bug that spews acid from its mouth.
  • Stellar Cannon: These huge bugs are used as heavy artillery capable of providing fire support on the ground, as well as in space.
  • Scorpicaster: These large bugs fire deadly Plasma from their tails, capable of crushing bunkers and fortifications.
  • Astral Monarch: The ultimate leadership bugs, responsible for expanding and guiding the Arachnid species.
  •   However, the Tikrachyds mysteriously vanished from the Expanze after The Shadewind disaster in 2450 of the 2nd Age. Their sudden disappearance gave rise to legends of an "unseen death" that passed over the desert, leaving no trace of its origin. Tribal histories recount mysterious events of a once active "Hive" inhabited by giant flesh-eating insectoids, which disappeared entirely after The Shadewind struck. In their place, giant mechanical monstrosities known as TokSlugz and TokWormz emerged, terrorizing the region with their relentless hunger for destruction. Many locals believe that the machines hunt and feed on death as much as they do materials, as sometimes they just seem to wreak havoc. The Tikrachyds' absence remains one of the Expanze's enduring mysteries.

The Unseen Death and the Emergence of TokSlugz

After The Shadewind disaster struck in 2450 of the 2nd Age, the Expanze was plagued by unsettling tales of the "unseen death" that swept over the desert, leaving no trace of its origin. This mysterious event resulted in the sudden disappearance of the Tikrachyds, a race of large insectoids that once roamed the Expanze as a caste-system hive of scavengers.   The Tikrachyds were renowned for their formidable size and strength, and their presence was deeply ingrained in the history and folklore of the desert's native inhabitants. However, in the aftermath of The Shadewind, their existence vanished without a trace. The once-active "Hive" inhabited by giant flesh-eating insectoids became nothing more than a distant memory.   In the Tikrachyds' place, the Expanze saw the emergence of giant mechanical monstrosities known as TokSlugz. These sentient machines, ranging in size from 25 to 45 meters long, appeared in the deep desert. Additionally, even larger creatures called TokWormz were spotted, some rumored to grow up to an astonishing 700 to 1000 meters in length.   The TokSlugz and TokWormz became an ominous presence in the Expanze, terrorizing the region with their relentless hunger for destruction. Some locals believe that these mechanical entities feed on death as much as they do materials, as their actions often seem to be driven by a malevolent force.   With the Tikrachyds' sudden disappearance and the emergence of TokSlugz and TokWormz, the Expanze's landscape and ecosystem were forever altered. The once-thriving Tikrachyd Hive became a haunting legend, and the Expanze was left to grapple with the enigma of the "unseen death" that had passed over its desolate desert sands.

    The TokSlugz and TokWormz Menace

The Expanze is now home to two colossal mechanical threats: the TokSlugz and the TokWormz. Emerging after the mysterious disappearance of the Tikrachyds, these giant monstrosities have become an ever-present menace in the desert.
Adventurer's Journal - Entry 42: Deadly Encounter with TokWormz Today, I faced the horrors of the desert's underground nightmare – the TokWormz. As our party descended into an ancient tunnel, the colossal worm struck, engulfing us in darkness. The sound of grinding gears and gnashing metal echoed through the darkness, and terror gripped my heart. Only through sheer luck did I escape the mechanical maw. Never have I felt so small and vulnerable. - [Realyna Rikwerz, Fearless Adventurer]
TokSlugz, ranging from 25 to 45 meters in length, and TokWormz, rumored to grow up to a staggering 700 to 1000 meters, roam the Expanze with relentless hunger for destruction. These sentient machines possess a malevolent aura, their presence sending shivers down the spines of those who dare venture into the desert.   Their hunting behavior is both methodical and terrifying. TokSlugz and TokWormz seem to target specific materials, indicating a purposeful mission to collect resources. Whether for their own sustenance or to serve their enigmatic creators, their actions are often precise and strategic.   Adventurers and spellcasters have become frequent targets of these mechanical terrors. They seemingly take delight in hunting those who carry unique materials for spells and rituals, as the combination of blood and gear serves as a perverse fuel for their insatiable engines.   Witnesses have recounted seeing TokSlugz and TokWormz burrowing deep into the desert, leaving behind devastated landscapes in their wake. These destructive forces show no mercy to anything in their path, be it organic or inorganic.   The presence of the TokSlugz and TokWormz has reshaped the Expanze's ecosystem, causing a drastic shift in its balance. These mechanical giants stand as harbingers of a new era, their malevolent influence stretching far beyond the barren wasteland they now inhabit. As they continue to evolve and improve themselves, the Expanze trembles in anticipation of what horrors they may unleash next.

    Theories and Legends

The sudden vanishing of the Tikrachyds and the emergence of the TokSlugz and TokWormz have given rise to a multitude of theories and legends, shrouding the Expanze in an air of mystery and uncertainty.   One prominent theory suggests that the Tikrachyds, once a caste-system hive of scavengers, were somehow transformed into the colossal mechanical monstrosities that now roam the desert. Some believe that during The Shadewind disaster, the very essence of the Tikrachyds was perverted, and they merged with their hives to become mobile machines of death. This theory suggests that the Arachnid species underwent a nightmarish evolution, transcending their organic forms to become the TokSlugz and TokWormz that now haunt the Expanze.   Legends speak of an "unseen death" that passed over the desert, wiping out the Tikrachyds and leaving no trace of its origin. The vanishing of the once-active "Hive" in the Expanze coincided with the emergence of the TokSlugz and TokWormz, leading some to believe that the unseen death was a force behind this transformation. Whether this "unseen death" was a malevolent entity or a natural phenomenon remains a matter of speculation.   Furthermore, there are whispers of a connection between The Shadewind disaster and the fate of the Tikrachyds. Some theorize that the events at Shadewind had far-reaching consequences that extended beyond the castle itself. The catastrophic event may have triggered a chain reaction, resonating with the very essence of the Tikrachyds, altering their existence and birthing the colossal mechanical menaces.   While these theories and legends offer intriguing possibilities, the truth behind the Tikrachyds' disappearance and the rise of the TokSlugz and TokWormz remains veiled in shadows. As scholars and adventurers continue to explore the Expanze, they seek answers to the mysteries that have forever altered the landscape of this once-vibrant region. The legend of the Tikrachyds and the menace of the TokSlugz and TokWormz continue to captivate the imaginations of those who dare to delve into the darkest corners of Konran's history.

    Current State and Impact

As the sands of time continue to sweep through the Expanze, the region stands transformed by the disappearance of the Tikrachyds and the relentless menace of the TokSlugz and TokWormz. The once-bustling hive of the Tikrachyds, with its caste system and scavenging ways, has been reduced to a mere whisper in tribal histories and tales. In its place, the colossal mechanical monstrosities have carved their dominion, bringing terror and destruction to the desert lands.   The absence of the Tikrachyds has left a profound impact on the local ecosystems. Once a vital part of the Expanze's biodiversity, the disappearance of these large insectoids has triggered a chain reaction throughout the food chain, affecting flora and fauna alike. The ecological balance they once maintained has been disrupted, leading to changes in vegetation, population dynamics, and predator-prey relationships. As a result, the desert now holds an eerie silence, void of the bustling activities of the Tikrachyds.   Culturally, the legend of the Tikrachyds and the enigma of their disappearance continue to captivate the imaginations of the local tribes. Their stories recount the once-active "Hive" that teemed with life and mystery, now replaced by the terrifying sight of the TokSlugz and TokWormz roaming the sands. The TokSlugz, with their insatiable hunger for destruction, have left their mark on tribal beliefs, becoming the stuff of legends and cautionary tales.   The presence of the TokSlugz and TokWormz has made the Expanze a perilous territory for adventurers and travelers. The giant mechanical menaces hunt with ruthless efficiency, targeting not only specific materials but also any living beings that cross their path. Their predatory instincts and ever-evolving nature make them formidable opponents, capable of challenging even the most seasoned adventurers.   With the Expanze now a realm of mystery and danger, caution is advised to those who dare venture into its depths. The region's current state stands as a stark reminder of the fragility of ecosystems and the potential consequences of unnatural events. While the Tikrachyds may be lost to the annals of history, their legacy and the menace of the TokSlugz and TokWormz live on, shaping the Expanze into an enigmatic and haunting landscape that continues to beckon explorers and scholars from all corners of Konran.
