Personal history
Frostfall 12, 1463
Today marks the beginning of our journey, a quest bestowed upon us by The Stranger—a mission to bring peace to the troubled lands of Frostholme. As I sit here in the dim light of our room, penning these words in the quiet solitude of the night, I reflect on the events that transpired in the small town of Twin Peaks. Our meeting at the tavern felt like fate weaving our paths together, each member of our party drawn by a shared purpose—a desire to make a difference in this world. The Stranger's words resonated within me, igniting a spark of determination to see this mission through to its end. Recognizing the importance of building a reputation that may aid them in their mission, the party members agree to lend their assistance to the townsfolk and engage in activities that could bolster their standing. They discover an opportunity at the Twin Peaks message board—a hunting competition and a plea for help from "Cook," the tavern's chef, who has been plagued by a persistent thief.
The hunt for the elusive culprit led us to a stakeout in the inn, where we encountered a clever lizard like creature that resembled a dragon born or one of the draconic races, skilled in the art of subterfuge. Despite our best efforts, we were outmatched by the creature's traps, and it was BratMael who emerged as the unlikely hero of the night. In a moment of desperation, BratMael's arrow found its mark, bringing an end to the creatures reign of mischief. Though the outcome was not what we had anticipated, we found solace in the knowledge that our actions had brought peace to the town. Yet, beneath the surface, tensions simmer. I cannot shake the feeling that there are secrets lurking within our midst, whispers of half-truths and hidden motives that threaten to unravel the fabric of our fellowship. My gaze drifts to my companions, and I wonder what thoughts lie behind their guarded expressions. BratMael's steadfast loyalty continues to puzzle me. Though I saved his brother's life in a moment of need, I cannot fathom why he has bound himself to me with a life debt when his heart yearns for the reunion with his kin. The complexities of his loyalty weigh heavy on my mind, a puzzle yet to be unraveled. I cannot help but marvel at the intricacies of fate that have brought us together. Our backgrounds could not be more different — he, a seasoned warrior seeking his lost brother amidst the chaos of conflict, and I, a humble cleric guided by the divine will of Elion. And yet, despite the vast divide that separates us, there is a bond forged in the crucible of shared adversity, a bond that transcends the boundaries of blood and kinship.
In Bratmael's eyes, I see echoes of my own struggles, mirrored in the depths of his gaze. He carries the weight of his past sins like a heavy burden, a burden that he carries with stoic resolve yet cannot fully shake. And though our paths diverge in many ways, there is a common thread that binds us — the desire to atone for past mistakes, to find redemption in the face of adversity. Our journey together has not been without its challenges. We have faced adversaries both mundane and monstrous, each encounter testing the limits of our resolve and our trust in one another. And yet, through it all, there is a silent understanding that binds us together, a silent pact. Reflecting on the decision to offer Bratmael the protection of Arak and taking responsibility for him on behalf of my kingdom, I find myself torn between doubt and conviction. On one hand, extending the mantle of protection to Bratmael aligns with the core principles of compassion and empathy that I strive to embody as a servant of Elion. His quest to find his lost brother resonates deeply with me, stirring echoes of my own desire to bring healing and redemption to those in need. Offering him sanctuary within the borders of Arak felt like the right thing to do, a gesture of goodwill and solidarity in a world torn apart by conflict. And yet, doubts linger in the recesses of my mind, whispering of the potential risks and repercussions of my decision. Bratmael's past is shrouded in shadows, his motivations and allegiances unclear. By pledging the protection of Arak to him, am I unwittingly inviting danger and discord into our midst? Is my desire to extend compassion clouding my judgment, blinding me to the potential dangers that lie ahead? Only time will tell whether my decision was a mistake or a stroke of providence. For now, I must trust in the guidance of Elion and remain vigilant in my duties as a protector of my realm. Whatever challenges may arise, I am resolved to face them head-on, guided by the principles of justice, compassion, and unwavering faith.
In the end, it is not the certainty of our choices that defines us, but the conviction with which we stand by them. May Elion grant me wisdom and strength in the days to come, as I navigate the murky waters of uncertainty and strive to uphold the values that define me as a servant of the goddess. As I reflect upon the events of the day, a nagging unease gnaws at the edges of my consciousness—a sense that all is not as it seems among our newfound companions. There is a subtle tension in the air, a veil of secrecy that shrouds their words and actions. Though they wear smiles upon their faces and speak words of camaraderie, I cannot shake the feeling that they harbor secrets, hidden truths that dance just beyond my grasp. It is as if shadows linger in the corners of their eyes, whispering secrets that they dare not share. And yet, despite my misgivings, I cannot help but feel a flicker of curiosity—an eagerness to unravel the mysteries that surround them. For in the heart of every enigma lies the promise of discovery, the chance to peel back the layers of deception and uncover the truth beneath. But for now, I must tread carefully, for trust is a fragile thing, easily shattered by the weight of suspicion. I shall keep my eyes open and my ears attuned to the whispers of the wind, ever vigilant for signs of deceit.
In the meantime, I shall focus on the task at hand—to bring peace to this troubled land, no matter the obstacles that stand in our way. For it is our duty, our destiny, to shine a light in the darkness and guide our companions toward the path of righteousness. And if they choose to walk beside us, I shall welcome them with open arms, trusting that together, we can overcome any challenge that lies ahead.
May Elion's light guide us on our journey, and may we find the strength to overcome whatever challenges lie ahead.
In faith and determination, Balthazar Enlit
