In response to Lif asking if theywould go up along the Kazad Wall, Conga says that, no they would have to go up around and down from the north. They set out and, bypassing the Tower of Noc, they went up into North Dale and around and back down the Longridge Cliff. Conga says that the reason he came this way is because the northern Direction Fort is the weakest. Then they come to Mazenfast. That night, when Lif thought that Conga was asleep, he starts talking to himself. He says, "I wish the Company was with me, or even just Roul. A human friend would be so nice, not putting anything on Conga, but he's just not human." The next day, Conga takes him to a secret door in the wall of Mazenfast. When they get there Conga says, "Here I must leave you, for if anyone recognizes me they will seize us both an imprison us." So Lif goes in by himself while Conga goes double speed, day and night back to Nanoon. The thing is, Conga wasn't just a runaway, but the general of a whole army of deserters who was. So he had been having spies come every night when Lif was asleep. By this he knew that, when Roul found out that Lif had left, he worked very hard on a plan to capture the three lost regions from Mazori. Roul knew why Lif had gone and knew that the only way for Lif to get all the way to Kragzar he would need military back up. So, as Lif and Conga climbed up into North Dale, Roul launched his attack.
