Tieflings

Demons, devils-made-flesh, temptors of the Physical world, these are the epiphets that the priests and the people in the Crimsom Cities call them, but the Tieflings in the north, especially in ancient times, were known as the Voices of the Gods.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Tieflings are, in a way, beautiful. Even the most savage-looking Tiefling has striking features that call the attention to onlookers. Facial hair on men is common, even sometimes coarse animal-fur can sometimes grow instead of hair. Their teeth are sometimes sharp, and their eyes are sometimes black and red, with no pupils.   They all have long slender tails; but their more calling features, are their horns. Sometimes they can be slightly long, and slender, but there are others that are striking antlers.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The majority of Tieflings live in the The Northlands and the The Valley Princes, mostly due to the relation of them and the ancient rituals that made them be.

Civilization and Culture

History

In ancient times, before the war of Winter’s Fire, the human tribes of the north worshipped the Wild Gods, that today would be known by their more ‘Civilized’ names: The Horned Woodsman, the Sea-Witch, The Dream-Weaver, the Rider of the Stars, the Thundering Stag, the Sun Mother, and the Laughing Twins; sometimes, it was said, that the priests and priestesses would dance in the runestones of the gods, and sometimes the gods would dance with them, and in those rituals, sometimes, the seed of a would-be Tiefling would be born. In these days, the Tieflings would be revered as the offspring of the gods, sometimes offered back to them as children in ritual sacrifices to the same gods, under the same runestones; other times these children grew, their horns and appearance revered as a sign of the gods’ favor, and placed in positions of power, oftentimes as chieftains, priests, healers, or seers. Even with the advent of steam technology coming from the Duskborn, and the lessening of Religious dogma in constrast of the Sciences and magic, Tieflings were still viewed in a sense of awe and wonder, a magnificent relic of a “noble and savage” past.   This all changed somewhat with the coming of the crusaders of the lost nation of Malbellón and Rossette, as they saw Tieflings as abominations to The Tetrarchy of Faith, and was their main reason to destroy several of the villages and runestones they ran accross. To this day, even with the fires of conquest now quelled by the passing of time, the people of the Crimson City-States still view the Tieflings with a certain ammount of suspision.   Today, most Tieflings care little of their past, but they inheretly still somewhat brush into positions of importance, especially in the North, where many Tiefling noble family clans still reside, some have moved away from their wild past, but some, such as a the Moonclaw, or Greenstag clans still cling to the old ways, keeping their subjects loyal to the ancient ties of the Old Gods; in the Midlands, especially in the The Crimson Lands, Tieflings are mostly shunned, and many preffer to live in the seedy side of the law, while in the Badlands some Tiefling families (such as the Runehorns and Twin-Kissed) have moved form the North to make a living on exploration of the old abandoned cities, and ruins left in the Devastation of the Winter’s Fire war. On the rest of the continent, Tieflings are somewhat rare, as the Axtalani revered the Heavenly Serpent Gods instead, so to them the Aasimar (or konetl-ejekakoatl in the old Axtalani tongue) were their version.
