Wyvern

Wyverns are one of the few flying species that aren’t birds or insects. Their body is a lot denser than those of birds, so their wings are a lot bigger in proportion. With a wingspan of almost 90 meters, every time a wyvern takes off the trees shake and the grass is torn apart. They spend almost the entirety of their lives flying in order not to do the extreme effort that taking off is. They eat birds and other flying animals.
Unlike avian animals, these giant flying reptiles are solitary hunters. They rarely meet other wyverns, other than to breed. There are just a few of them today, so seeing one is an extraordinary marvel. Most people live their entire lives without seeing one. It is said that there are much more of them in the Kuromori jungle, though.
The subspecies that inhabits Kuromori is much smaller, with a wingspan of around 25 meters. It’s unknown how wyverns got to this jungle. This variant lives in groups of an unknown number of members. This number is presumed to be quite large, though. It is said that a certain wyvern called Ryushaoka is the leader of all the groups in the jungle.
