The Zalenga Free Economic Zone
Structure
After the collapse of the government of The United Republic of Zalenga, there was immediately a necessity for a legal framework to regulate and mediate relations between megacorporations. Thus, all of the largest corporations, and the vast majority of the smaller businesses in the Zalenga Free Economic Zone have become part of a mutually binding legislative and judicial body that dictates their relations with one another, acting as a basic civil government. Its leadership is entirely composed of the CEO’s of the megacorporations, and essentially all its functions are outsourced to one or more of the dominant companies. It is nominally responsible for mediating international relations, and can play a role in the resolution of disputes through legal means, it is more common for the megacorporations to negotiate individually with foreign governments.
Many large businesses based in the Zalenga Free Trade Zone have branches and/or subsidiaries in neighbouring countries, though nowhere else do they possess such influence and power as in the Free Trade Zone.

When The United Republic of Zalenga collapsed, the largest corporate bodies of the state came together to guarantee their own stability.

Technological Level
Generally, the ZFEZ possesses a level of technology slightly higher than most of its neighbours, though it does lag behind in certain fields, for example, the Fifth Kaminar Republic invests much more heavily in military technology, and can field superior hardware, while also competing on an equal footing with regard to artificial implants. Tantalum deposits are not found in the Zalenga Free Trade Zone, and manufacturers of implants and some other electronics face shortages, particularly during times of heightened diplomatic tensions with the Fifth Kaminar Republic and Ichaaskean Meritocracy.
Foreign Relations
Foreign powers can sometimes struggle when dealing with or in the Zalenga Free Trade Zone, as the nearest entity to a central government has no real control over the relations of individual businesses with other organizations.
