The Fifth Ksamnang Repubic
The Fifth Ksamnang Republic is a hyper-nationalistic state in which the indoctrinated populace is kept in check by a powerful secret police force, and is perpetually distracted using mass entertainment, "junk food news", abundant reality dramas and mockumentaries, and blood sports.
Military
The Ksamnang Republic is a highly militarized state, with a large military that is split into three main components - an army, air force, navy, each of which incorporates its own marine corps.
There is also the Domestic Security Agency, a powerful, paramilitary secret police, and special forces division (separate military special forces exist, attached to the national army, navy, and air force), that is used when direct force is required, to discourage, suppress, or remove any threats to central authority. While nominally separate, it co-operates very closely with the Internal Affairs Committee, providing ‘muscle’ in arrests and kidnappings/disappearances, intimidation/harassment, fomenting counter-revolutionary activity, creating cover stories to secret activities, counter-terrorism operations, and riot control. With its heavier armament and more aggressive tactics compared to the standard police force, the DSA also participates in larger-scale law enforcement operations, for example in countering organized crime.
Agriculture & Industry
The Fifth Ksamnang Republic is heavily industrialized and its economy relies primarily on mining and manufacturing. It generates its power through a combination of burning fossil fuels and nuclear fission, the resources for both being mined in the Republic. Due to heavy environmental pollution, most of the rural areas in the nation are not agriculturally viable, so almost all of the Fifth Republic’s food is grown hydroponically, and a relatively small number of animals are raised in indoor battery conditions. A variety of plant, fungal, and cyanobacterial concentrates and extracts are mass-produced for use in food products as protein sources.

Legislative Body
An assembly of public citizens elects magistrates to govern. After serving a fixed term, some magistrates are chosen by the Senate to become new members of the Senate. The Senate oversees overall policy, while the magistrates form the executive branch of government. The Senate and magistrates share legislative functions, but major decisions are put to a public vote. However, as voting is purely electronic, results can be falsified, and the actual vote need not dictate the official outcome. While the executive function of the Senate is nominally advisory, it carries enough prestige and influence that its decisions are effectively treated as law by the magistrates. Though the Senate is legally the highest authority of the state, it really acts as little more than a puppet. Ultimate control lies with a shadow council whose existence is not public knowledge, and who exert control over the Senate. It is the shadow council that actually selects those who become senators, albeit via Senate decisions. Only those magistrates thoroughly vetted and considered sufficiently co-operative and discreet are allowed into the Senate, and become aware of the existence of the shadow council, though there is only indirect contact between the two, with Senators remaining ignorant of the identities of the shadow councilors.
