The Cursed Triad
In the end, the stories were true, a mere mortal is not able to handle that much divine power.
The Cursed Triad is a group of three necklaces that were discovered and collected by a wizard named Isorin Melchor during the twenty-fifth and twenty-sixth century. The Cursed Triad consists of the Forsaken Sun, the Serpent Core and the Colossal Wings. Currently both the Serpent Core and the Colossal Wings are housed in the vaults underneath the Grand Library of Trisza, but archivists have no knowledge on the location of the Forsaken Sun.
History
After the Shattering a story began to surface. It told about a set of jewels that each held magical power, but when combined, would bestow the owner with more divine power than they would be able to contain. This idea of endless possibilities and unimaginable power and wealth spurred the heart of many adventurers who went looking for these pieces. But even though many looked for them, for centuries nothing was found, slowly people started to give up on the idea and story turned into myth.
Still, there were some people who kept looking, dedicating their whole life to the pursuit. One of these people was Isorin Melchor, a wizard who had always been seen as a madman and someone who was better to keep away from. Spending years and years of research, trying to find clues and traveling to remote cultures to see about their myths. Slowly his research let Isorin to three jewels that had been the centre piece of some obscure myths.
Isorin travelled to the locations he had found. First he went to one of the recently discovered islands in the Southern Ocean were he found a wild tribe snake people. Isorin managed to impress them by putting up a magical specticle and teaching various things about the world beyond the island. As reward he got the necklace worn by the village chief, which completed the first part of his adventure.
Compared to the first one, finding the second piece took more effort. Isorin travelled to the Underearth, but even in the Middle cities he found, there was no mention of a jewel that matched the description. After years of searching he finally decended to the Depths, knowing that that was the only other place in the Underearth he could look. As feared, the Depths were challenging and Isorin nearly lost his life a couple of times before finding the black iron city that held the jewel. Where founding it had proven difficult, retreiving is was even more of a challenge. The denizins of the city were less willing to part with their jewel or the wizard for that matter. A tense fight broke out and Isorin give his everything to get out alive. Luckily he did manage to snatch the necklace before teleporting away.
Finding the location of the last piece was less difficult, but getting there proved a challenge. Isorin figured out the last jewel was in posession of a mighty storm giantess, who lived on the highest peak within the Savage Divide which was quite tricky to reach. It took Isorin many tries to traverse the storm filled mountains, before finally reaching the lair of the giantess. The conversation was difficult, but in the end the giantess was intrigued by Isorin's knowledge and proposed a game of riddles and challenges for Isorin to complete. Over the course of a week, Isorin was given a riddle or puzzle each morning which he had to complete by the evening. The only rule set was that using magic to solve any part of the challenges was not allowed. In the end Isorin was not able to complete the seventh challenge so he came up with a plan to steal the jewel during the night, inducing the wrath of the giantess.
After returning home with the last piece, Isorin quickly hastened to his work table and placed each piece together. The moment the pieces touched each other a bright white light filled the room and a stream of voices came down upon Isorin. Quickly his head filled with knowledge, overflowing his consciousness. Trying to contain it all, Isorin drained all his arcane power in a last attemped to overpower it, but to no avail. The arcane clashed with the divine, causing an immense magical explosion which managed to crack the earth and destroy most of Isorin and his belongings, leaving behind a scar filled with magical energy in the landscape.

Oops. Rest in peace, Isorin. I guess at least he fulfilled his quest before he died? I love the description of the necklaces in the side bar. They all sound so beautiful.
