Aerodite

History

Aerodite was found within deep in the mines of Rasvich just after The Prime Revolt when many cities in Kaigan needed more materials for the rebuilding. Rasvich had sprung upon that chance to provide. When they first encountered the off white veins, it was simply collected and put asside, the miners more focussed on providing the requested materials.   It took a couple of years before a mage found the cast aside ores. Elin Tricmor had noticed the small magic aura comming off the white-ish veins and collected a couple of samples to take back to her lab. It didn't take many experiments to discover that the off white coloured ore indeed possessed magical properties. She also noted the slight colour changes the ore went through when she applied different forms of magic and concluded that the different colours indicated what kind of properties the ore showed at that point. After that discovery the material got adapted for use outside of scientific research.

Magical proporties

Aerodite has three distinct magical properties, namely ascending, descending and floating. These take effect when the right magic is cast upon an Aerodite crystal. Even a little bit of magic, like a cantrip, has effect on Aerodite and will produce the desired effect, but slower and less potent. When more powerful spells are cast, the effect will be stronger, for example the crystal will ascend or descend faster or float longer. The amount of magic a certain Aerodite crystal can hold, depends on size of the crystal, larger crystals can hold the magic effect of more powerful spells. Over powering a crystal will break it.   While Aerodite is white in an inert state, it undergoes a slight color change when magic is applied. The material has a pastel pink color when in the floating state, pastel blue in the descending state and a pastel yellow whilst ascending.

Usage

Air ships

The most common use for Aerodite is in air ships. Aerodite crystals are placed along the bow of the airship and connected via magic transfer cables to the magic receiver next to the steering wheel. The Aerodite crystals allow the ship to float in mid-air and move up or down while a propulsion system propels the ship forwards or backwards by moving the air underneath the ship in a certain direction.

Aerosphere

Another use for Aerodite is in the ball used in Aerosphere. Before the game the magic is cast on the Aerodite ball to make it float steady in the air after which the ball is placed within a cover as to not disturb the magic on the ball when magic users use spells to move the ball. Aerodite balls are generally uncommon as Aerodite is quite expensive and thus they are only used in higher class games and tournaments.

The flying hydra

In the middle of Union Square, in the upper city of Trisza, is a big fountain with as crownpiece a large floating hydra with seven heads. Each of the heads has two Aerodite eyes that hold the hydra floating. The eyes have a slight pastel pink tint to it, showing the floating state of the material.   The red hydra is the symbol of Trisza and the seven heads refer to The Prime Council with it's seven members.

Ooo, I love the backstory that this was originally just cast aside. Really fascinating properties. Is Ae the elemental symbol for it?

Thanks for the comment! Yeah it is :) The template has a pre-made box for elemental symbol, displaying it like that :)
