6 Mucimold
Name: Mucimold
Descendant of: Carrimold
Description: This fungus-like organism evolved a specialized spore with a pre-packaged flagellum. When the spore lands on a slime-producing animal, it releases this flagellum, changes shape and propels itself into the mucous membrane surface and closer to the animal. This way it can actively reach the animal before it's mucous production washes the spore away.
It infests soft-bodied slug-like animals, spreading throughout it's body. The fruit has many heads but doesn't fray until it breaches the mucous membrane surface.
Spreading of mycellium within the host promotes growth but the mold generally doesn't reproduce this way as it can't spread beyond the host in this manner.
Reproduction: Fruiting bodies cast off spores to the sea. Spores can be sexual or asexual. The first fruit originating from the origin of infestation produces asexual diploid spores, those produced from later fruit growth are sexual haploid.
Food: Live soft-bodied animals (e.g. descendants of Enzastro, Gascoop, Nerstric)
