37 Nightmoss

Name: Nightmoss   Descendant of: Slilgi   Description: A rock and soil covering species more tolerant of hot days and direct equatorial sun. It's darkest pigments fade during the day, denatured by the sun's strength. Secondary pigments become the primary photosynthetic pigments in the height of midday.   The photosynthetic pigments that give it it's dark colour are not meant for daylight hours. They are meant for sunrise, sunset and cosmic light on clear nights. In land 11 in the past it also allowed them to thrive in the shade of other ground plants which became crowded over the skin-formers like slilgi. However many of these plants didn't survive the severe climatic swings or direct poisoning from the lava fields at the South and upwind from the rest of the region, leaving the survivor slilgi exposed in many areas. This is why they transform in colour during the day now.   At night they spore to the open air, producing tiny spore heads all over their surface. This also increases their surface area for receiving light at night from Cappu's day side, from it's moon and from the stars.   Reproduction: It reproduces by growth and fragmentation (clones) but at night will also produce asexual spores.   Food: Photosynthesis   Ocean Locations: None Land Locations: 9, 10, 11 (All: Freshwater, Land)
