10 Crawroot
Name: Crawroot
Descendant of: Redroot
Description: This species is better adapted for freshwater than it's ancestor. It has two main types of tissue, it's cord-like tendrils and it's cloudy vegetative tissue. The cord-like tendrils are mainly for grip and growth-based movement but are also hollow and draw up any freely available nutrients (of which there isn't much, but some). They are stronger and firmer than ancestors and the cells elongate further to help it reach new ground faster. The tendrils sprout new vegetative and sporing tissue as they spread out from their point of origin (a spore embryo). The tendrils mainly move along surfaces, gluing themselves to hard rocks. This allows them to reach places that other plants get kept away by currents.
Their spores are smaller and lighter, able to be carried on wind and water droplets and enter the global water and weather systems, raining down on new freshwater habitats.
Reproduction: It reproduces by growth and fragmentation (clones) but also regularly produces tiny asexual spores.
