Abyssal Kernon

In time, the Redzone pollutes all things. Even the very ground you walk on.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Abyssal Kernon is very similar to regular Kernon mined on Vernos. Jet black stone with cylindrical protrusions across its surface. The only noticeable difference is that the stone has glowing deep red veins that run through it.

Physical & Chemical Properties

It does the same thing as Kernon does except that the atmosphere it creates is poisonous to any mortal being.

Compounds

Under the Resource Mining and Collection Prohibition Abyssal Kernon is outlawed in the greater galaxy due to its toxic affect on mortal biology.   This however does not prevent Redwatch Officers from smuggling it back and selling it on the black market. It is primarily used in that context in demonic and magic rituals. But due to its slower deterioration rate many scientists also want it to study.

Geology & Geography

Abyssal Kernon only exists within the RedZone.

Life & Expiration

Abyssal Kernon's deterioration rate is much slower than its non-polluted counterpart. Where 15 pounds of Kernon can last 3.5 weeks, 15 pounds of Abyssal Kernon lasts for 3.5 years.   Before the Resource Mining and Collection Prohibition was passed many scientists were trying to find a way to remove its toxic affect. However, after the MCP was passed this resource has been locked up pretty securely and thus stalling research.

History & Usage

Discovery

Discovered during the first expedition in the RedZone in 21 AE by Head Steward Vazian. At the time though it wasnt identified as Kernon until later when Kernon was discovered in 852 GA by Nikola Dwesla. This was then confirmed on later expeditions into the RedZone.

Everyday use

Though outlawed by the Resource Mining and Collection Prohibition, it is a common black market item bought by cults and scientists.

Cultural Significance and Usage

Ritualistically, Abyssal Kernon is used in demonic practices. These range from allowing demons to roam outside the RedZone without a host (since demons cannot survive in our atmosphere) to summoning tiny demonic pets.

Industrial Use

Abyssal Kernon has potential to be a longer lasting version of Kernon for space stations and Vernosian cities. This however can only happen if one can figure out how to filter the toxic gasses it produces.

Refinement

Unlike Kernon, this version is constantly active as the mineral deteriorates and releases toxic gasses. It doesnt create an artificial atmosphere though until an electrical current passes through it.

Distribution

Trade & Market

This item is sold exclusively by illegal means.

Storage

Due to its toxic nature Abyssal Kernon is stored in air tight canisters with electricity dampeners to prevent unwanted activation.

Law & Regulation

Abyssal Kernon falls under excessively dangerous natural resources and is outlawed by the Galactic Council through the Resource Mining and Collection Prohibition.
