The Consolidation War

Before the Kingdom of Ja'aruuka was established it was a tribal realm.  All the land in between the western coastlands and the eastern coastlands was held by individual families.  These families made up small clans of human subjects that fought and made alliances with each other.  During the Consolidation war the Ja'aruukan Clan from the east carved out their own place in history.     This clan was a loose federation of overland traders that got along with almost every other clan in the region.  They grew to be very powerful through their trading routes that went from the Dwarven kingdoms of the north east to the great naval clans of the western coast.  They were most successful in building a road network that connected their city to all other towns and keeps across the current kingdom.  Military historians praise this clans ability to establish themselves in every clan as what turned the conflict in their favor, and that may have had something to do with it, but the real reason that they were able to consolidate power was due to their use of mages and other magic users.  The first king of Ja'aruuka, a man by the name of Horace, married a high elf woman from the northern forests.  She was an outcast from her tribe because of her understanding of arcane incantations but Horace saw an opportunity.  Not many of the clans allowed the use of magic from its citizens out of fear of losing power so they had hunted down all open magic users in an attempt to make sure that they would not realize their power and overthrow the tribal governments. Horace used his new wife to turn the tides in his favor.     The methods of victory for Horace and his armies followed a similar path for each clan that he conquered.  He would send trade envoys to the town which would pass messages to his agents within his trading guild.  These agents would then, on a given command attack high value targets within the towns while the new Queen would use her magic to attack the armies at the gate.  The confusion of magic accompanied by the stealthy attacks from the back caused most clans to fall without a lot of bloodshed.  King Horace used these tactics to consolidate power in the Eastern Duchy.  He would appoint new clan chiefs who were sympathetic to his cause and levy the new vassals troops into his own army.  By the time he was ready to cross the mountains to the Western Duchy he had an army that none had ever seen in this world.     Ultimately he was able to secure his place as king after the Battle of the Black Tower towards the end of this war.
