Faelk

Faelk are the descendants of various unions between ancient human tribes and elves who came to visit them from the realm of Faerie.

Etymology

The term 'faelk' has been used since the first appearance of beings crossbred between elven and human parents.

History

Faelk first appeared in the end times of the Mercurial Age. After almost all mercury elementals had been driven from Ithir, elves started to travel there from the realm of Faerie. They came into contact with tribes of humans and even established diplomatic relations with the most civilised amongst them. In other cases, the elves established dominions over humans, and faelk were born from enslaved harems.

Form

Body

Faelk are more beautiful and lifeful than most other wights. The fay blood, when it runs strongly in them, confers pale skin, delicate features, little to no body hair, and slender anatomy. A faelk has an uncanny ability based on their race; for example, the faelk of the Gildengraves possess remarkable attunement to the world around them, allowing them to perceive with great acuity, and to act with impressive grace and coordination. Almost all half-blooded faelk and many quadroons have green eyes, just like pixies.

Spirit

Faelken spirits are naturally receptive to magic. Many faelk exploit this to wield arcane magic to great effect, while silvan faelk use it to establish connections with the magic of the earth, giving them increased vitality and perception.

Soul

Faelk have souls that are irreversibly connected to the light of Alfheim and are bound to go there after their physical bodies die. This connection makes their souls especially valuable to practitioners of black magic who seek to insidiously harness the magic of Alfheim.

Behaviour

Faelk tend to have measured, patient personalities, and lean towards good nature. They usually try to live in harmony with the natural and magical world.

Races

Grey faelk

The grey faelk glorify the idea of ascending to Alfheim, seeing it as a place of glory, wine halls, and great adventure. They seek to die in glorious battle that will gain the favour of the gods, so that they pass into the shining halls and not be forced to remain on the Earth as bitter spirits.
