Return of the Ridge Dwarves

Diplomatic action

374CE

After three millenia in their mountains, a diplomatic assembly of dwarves, accompanied by an emerald dragonborn, arrived in Undermont to reconnect with humanity.

The Ridge Dwarves had been avoiding the world beyond their mountains and halls since they'd returned to them before the Imperial Age. In that time they had kept some trade and social connections with the human empires and their cousins in the south but this were all lost and retracted during the cataclysms. Since then, they found very little need to leave their homes, locked away behind large stone doors, occasioanlly journeying to the mountain tops to survey the beautiful views beyond.   The arrival of the dragonborn changed this.   In the year 297 CE, an emerald dragonborn named Gaulthrax Mornmarun emerged in the Dwarven Kingdom of Mel Tarum from deep underground with several others to give the message from their gods. They were given an audience with King Stalnach Friedensstifter Kinderodertarum Oderclan Gratvater.   Gaulthrax beseeched the king to return to humanity and begin trading again. They had grown stagnant and the people beyond their mountains would lead the dwarves to a new era of greatness.   What followed was decades of conversations, investigations, and negotiations. In this time, dwarven spies were sent to find how the world had changed and dragonborn emmisaries from beyond the mountains came to meet their bretheren and pass on more information.   King Stalnach died in the year 373 CE. On his deathbed he spoke to his son, Tornbrüt Kinderodertarum Oderclan Gratvater, and beseeched him to do as the dragonborn asked and start a new age for the ridge dwarves.   And so, the newly crowned King Tornbrüt left with a retinue of dwarves to meet the Petty King Under the Mountain.
