Wildemore
Wildemore is the Capital City of Arkenhorn and the Seat of the Monarch of Arkenhorn.
City layout
The city is comprised of three concentric rings: The Keep, The Noble Quarter, and The Outer Quarter. The Keep:
This is where the queen herself resides. Within here is the Queen, The Queens Army, apartments for visiting nobles, the Queen's stables, an area for competitions (such as jousting), and all the amenities for Her Royal HighnessThe Noble quarter:
This is the next ring and is home to jewellers, artisans, merchants, and aristocrats. Access to this area is permitted only to those of high enough status and wealth. Essentially a gated community. Invite only, or with significant 'administration charges' in order to get a pass for access. Defended by the Royal GuardThe Common Quarter
The rest of the population reside here. Simple craftsmen and women exist out here with the rest of the general population. The cost of living increases towards the walls of the Noble Quarter. The impoverished exist on the north west, far from the main gate at the southGovernment
The Queen rules over the nation but resides in the city. The City is ruled by Lord Wildemore. The title is not hereditary, instead it is selected by the queen. However, traditionaly the queen just selects the eldest child of the current Lord.Defence
The city is surrounded by city walls and protected my the Wildemen.Commerce
The city has many stone masons and architects, many of whom are members of the Moradin's Hands. Open markets are few and tend to be found in the poorer end of town, while great stone complexes exist for shopkeepers. The city has few open spaces and all the roads are cobbled. The city is very green behind the closed doors of wealthy nobles, who own gorgeously crafted gardens, using magic to sustain unnatural plants that come from more exotic areas.Organisations
The Four Guilds of Fallowdor have houses here, but the presence or Moradin's Hands are strongly felty here. All construction businesses belong to the Hands. The Senses of Wildemore
See
- The streets twist and curve their way through the city. The streets are narrow and the paths are cobbled with gutters running along the sides of the streets
- No carriages are found within the city, but the nobles are permitted to bring their horses in and right them around the city, though many prefer a palanquin carried by servants. Hand pulled carts are permitted but nothing too large
- There is a very large collection of carts and stables outside the city where visitors are permitted to store their horses. There are a plethora of merchants selling their stabling services, some more reliable than others
Hear
- The city is filled with the sounds merchants conversing and people practicing their craft. Hammers ring on anvils, haggling is loud, the occasional explosion from a wizards workshop. Wildemont is a busy city, and its people are busy people
Smell
- The smell varies as you travel through the city. Slowly, the smell of fields and manure is replaced by the smell of human waste. The stables are the next stench to occur. Then, as you pass through the gate, you begin to smell the smithies, the smell of iron filling your nose as heavily as the ringing fills your ears. Then, as you continue up into the city, you near the area of the city that deals with food. You encounter food shops, a few lower end taverns, inns, and hostels. As you approach the second wall, the establishments become more upmarket and is where you will find comfortable inns. Once you enter the second ring, the smells begin to become more pleasant. The side gutters for the street are no longer present, replaced by underground sewers. The smells that drift from taverns and Inns are exquisite. The shops in this area sell more exotic foods and they sell spices.
Touch
- You feel the cobbles pressing into the soles of your shoes as you walk along, walking through streets and feeling your self pushed to and from in the near constant throng in many of the streets.
- The walls feel powdery in your hands as you trace the groves of the stonework with your fingers
Taste
- The cuisine of Wildemore has echoes of the surrounding kingdoms throughout it. Slow roasted sheep from Arkenhorn is fused with the spices brought north from chapghati, and the wines of Rosenstrand are plentiful here, paired with some great cheeses of Buckinskeep and great ales from Undermont. This city is almost the capital of Aegall itself, and everyone wants a taste of home
Arriving at the City of Wildemore
"After travelling through plains and fields, you crest the top of a hill. As you do, you see a huge city in the distance. You have quite a walk before you arrive but the sheer size is still clear from this distance. Sitting on the top of a large hill is a castle, the sunlight gleaming off its white stone. The castle itself is surrounded by a wall of stone and, sitting outside of that stone is a collection of fine buildings of all different stones and styles. Domed roofs, spirals, slanted roofs, spire, flat roofs, there is no one design but together they somehow create a unified image. Surrounding these buildings is a further wall and outside of which you can see the tops of further buildings at different heights. The entire complex is further surrounded by an outer wall, interrupted at different positions with great stone towers. As you come closer, you approach the front gate"
